Indexing Plunger Tips for Special Requirements

With the indexing plunger standard GN 81700, Ganter is once again closing a gap by introducing seven new variants with specially shaped tips that are available in various materials for different applications.

They are classics in the Ganter product range: indexing plungers have been a diverse and indispensable part of the Ganter catalog for half a century now. They serve to lock, position, secure, close or hold – all in a compact design with self-explanatory operation. Because the possible applications are so diverse, an entire product family of standard designs has emerged, each specialized and optimized for very specific tasks. Now the family has grown once again.

The standard part experts at Ganter identified further gaps and closed them with new, application-specific solutions. This time it is all about the design of the indexing plunger tip, or more specifically, its shape and material. In this way, GN 81700 further expands the universe of indexing plungers. Ganter has developed seven such tips, which extend the spectrum of applications with new and useful features.

For example, plunger pin type KA has a rounded tip of easily gliding glass fiber-reinforced PPA that leaves no marks or scratches on sensitive surfaces – while the metallic part of the pin still ensures a non-positive engagement. Plunger pin type MA achieves a very similar effect with its brass pin that also slides gently over sensitive surfaces while offering extremely smooth operation thanks to the favorable friction pairing between the guide and the plunger pin. Indexing holes are easier to find with type SB, which has a self-centering conical tip that effortlessly passes over raised areas.

The spherical tip of type SC ensures reliable engagement in tapered holes and allows it to pass over low edges, functioning similar to a spring plunger. Plunger pin type SD has a cylindrical shape that is ideal for shallow detent bores in applications where deep holes or through holes are not possible. And Ganter’s selection now also includes some very special variants: the cylindrical pin shapes SE and SF end in an external or internal thread, allowing them to be extended with rods for use as actuating elements, for example. Entirely new applications are possible by combining the above plunger pin types with guide bushings DIN 179 and dowel pins DIN 7979.

All indexing plungers of the GN 81700 family can be ordered with or without a rest position, with or without a lock nut and in blackened steel or stainless steel of quality class 1. Despite their special character, they are available immediately from stock without any minimum quantities.
