Particle counters as control instruments for air purity in cleanrooms

A clean environment is an essential prerequisite for continuous quality and low rejection rates. This applies not only to semiconductor manufacturing facilities for structures in the micro- and nanometer range but also, for example, in microchip production, medical technology, precision engineering, and cosmetics.

To achieve the highest possible cleanliness in the cleanroom, components such as walls, ceilings, floors, or filters must not absorb or emit disturbing particles. Employees are only allowed to enter the cleanroom wearing special cleanroom clothing and through designated airlocks or air showers.

But how can we ensure that the cleanrooms meet the specified requirements?

This is where the particle counter comes into play as a control instrument. It measures, for example, using the light scattering method, the number and size of particles carried in the air, which can significantly impair the quality and functionality of products.

Depending on the requirements, cleanliness class, and process workflows, mobile or stationary particle measuring devices can be used.
