Paperless labeling with VEYA from Stormbit

Error-free operation in the cleanroom has the highest priority

In GMP-compliant cleanroom production, the highest accuracy, purity, and safety are top priorities. Nevertheless, many documentation processes and labeling requirements are still carried out on paper—and thus remain susceptible to errors and inconsistencies. An increasing number of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and laboratories are therefore turning to paperless solutions to make their processes more efficient and secure.

VEYA comes from Stormbit, a software solutions company of the Systec & Solutions Group. The system enables paperless, GMP-compliant labeling and visualization of production-relevant data in the cleanroom environment. Central information such as production data, room parameters, status messages, or cleaning states are displayed in real time via LCD-based HMIs (for example, MODI dashboards) and ePaper-based labels (LSLs; LSL = Life Science Label) and the corresponding app. The human factor as a source of error is eliminated. This precise communication increases production safety and enhances efficiency.

VEYA visualizes all relevant KPIs and parameters—from room temperature, pressure, humidity, cleaning status, to all order-related production data. This ensures that all decision-critical information is available in real time inside and outside the cleanroom. The systems can be integrated firmly into the cleanroom wall as needed or be mounted flexibly on containers or production equipment.

The underlying data are typically already available digitally in existing enterprise systems. VEYA accesses this information directly and transmits it to the LCD panels or MODI dashboards and ePapers installed outside the cleanrooms. There, they are clearly structured, displayed in the company's corporate design, and optimally legible. Unlike traditional paper displays, the presentation is based on a unified, validated data source—reliable avoidance of conflicting or outdated information.

Which information is displayed on which LCD panel and label can be conveniently controlled via the central VEYA app.

The MODI dashboards are specifically designed for use under GMP conditions and in cleanrooms and are ideal for visualizing room information as well as for building automation applications. The fanless 7" and 10.1" LCD displays with LED backlight technology feature an intuitive multi-touch display with optical bonding, which can be reliably operated even with cleanroom gloves. Thanks to IPS panels with up to 178° viewing angles and various interfaces such as USB, Gigabit Ethernet, WLAN, and Bluetooth, the devices can be flexibly integrated into existing infrastructures. Optional features include pre-installed kiosk mode and various mounting and enclosure options—including IP65 versions.

With the ePaper-based labels (LSLs), the manufacturer also offers the possibility to remove paper from process containers, production batches, and laboratory equipment. E-Paper labels, which are attached instead of paper tags to devices and objects, also draw their data from the central VEYA app. This ensures that labels on cleanroom equipment are audit-proof and always up to date.

The LSLs have also been specifically developed for the life sciences industry. The devices are available in 4.2" and 7.5" sizes and feature a four-color e-paper display (black, white, red, yellow). They meet the IP65 protection class and are designed for optimal cleanability—a crucial factor in cleanroom environments. An integrated multi-color LED with edge-light provides quick visual status recognition. Connectivity is wireless via the LSL access point, while the battery operation allows up to five years of runtime. The solution is ideal for semi-static digital labeling applications and offers various mounting options—both with magnetic and non-magnetic mounts, which can be individually adapted to different use cases.

This innovative solution from Stormbit is agile, flexible, and quickly adaptable, offering maximum data security. The company initially specialized in life-science-ready solutions for the pharmaceutical industry and supports pharmaceutical production and laboratories from GMP-compliant planning to the implementation of HMI systems with VEYA and validated data transfer.
