OECHSLER AG ("OECHSLER"), a leading plastics technology group with a global presence and headquarters in Ansbach/Middle Franconia, has today introduced an independent brand for its Health business segment: Under OECHSLERhealth, with its own website (www.oechsler-health.com), new logo, and social media presence, the company's global medical device business will now be marketed. The new brand is another step in implementing OECHSLER's growth offensive launched in 2022 for the Health business segment. The growth strategy is based on investments in key areas such as personnel and process development, as well as infrastructure, and is aimed at the increasing worldwide demand in medical technology, with the goal of gradually expanding the global customer and product portfolio.
The Franconian technology company is diligently working to surpass the sales threshold of 100 million euros in its strategic growth business with medical devices by 2028. In the fiscal year 2022, OECHSLERhealth already recorded a significant sales increase of 28 percent to 19 (2021: 15) million euros and continues its growth trajectory successfully in the current fiscal year. Within one year, OECHSLERhealth has already gained two globally active pharmaceutical companies as new customers. OECHSLERhealth supports them throughout the entire product development process, from concept development to successful market launch and series production, positioning itself specifically as a Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) for MedTech OEMs and the pharmaceutical industry. The company sees significant growth potential in the future particularly in the product categories Drug Delivery Systems, Diagnostics, and minimally invasive surgical technologies.
1,300 m² of new cleanroom capacities, at least another 500 m² planned
As part of its growth offensive, OECHSLERhealth is significantly expanding its global production capacities for medical devices: By 2024, the company will invest a higher single-digit million amount in expanding the new cleanroom areas according to DIN ISO 7 and 8 or GMP Class C & D standards worldwide. At the headquarters in Ansbach, the expansion of cleanroom capacities by 50 percent to 2,000 square meters has already been completed, with an additional 500 square meters planned. At the Mexico site, the completion of a new cleanroom with 650 square meters is imminent. The first expansion phase already creates the prerequisites for the next step, adding another 500 square meters. In the coming years, further measures are planned at the locations in Romania and China.
Global demand for medical devices increases significantly
The global healthcare market is considered highly dynamic, with long product cycles requiring rapid innovation and maximum flexibility to meet customer needs. In Germany alone, around 500,000 different medical devices are on the market. OECHSLERhealth benefits from its extensive experience in manufacturing these products. For over 30 years, the company has been producing inhalers, blood glucose meters, and pipettes worldwide for numerous well-known industry customers. Critical to this long-standing success are the high standards of quality and precision, a broad technology portfolio, and the company's international presence.
The worldwide healthcare market, valued at over one trillion euros, is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. The trend is toward home treatment – people want to perform medically necessary treatments as individually and independently as possible. In the inhaler category, market research institutes forecast an average annual growth of 7 percent until 2030. For blood glucose meters, the expected annual increase is even 11 percent. Globally, around 500 million people already suffer from diabetes, and the trend is rising.
Raik Lüder, Chief Products & Markets Officer of OECHSLER, said: “The medical technology market is a future-oriented market offering great opportunities. Life expectancy and living standards are continuously increasing, which means more and more people need medical devices such as inhalers, blood glucose meters, or pipettes and catheters in their daily lives. At OECHSLER, we not only have the right technological solutions for manufacturing medical devices, but also the relevant experience and an international production network. It is therefore only logical that we give our growth offensive in the Health sector even greater visibility with our own business unit OECHSLERhealth.”
Felix Hess, Vice President Sales OECHSLERhealth, added: “We have an ambitious growth plan with OECHSLERhealth, which we are implementing step by step. The new market presence of the Health business segment and the significantly expanded cleanroom facilities for medical device production are two important milestones on the way to increasing our sales in this area to 100 million euros by 2028. We continue to optimize our processes to be a reliable development and industrialization partner for our global customers at all times and stages, providing tailored manufacturing solutions for high-quality medical products. This is how we prepare our organization for the dynamically growing demand in the coming years.”
