With the white Tribo-Tape made from iglidur W160, igus expands its range of variable sliding films with an antibacterial and UV-stable material. This allows tribologically stressed surfaces in hygiene-sensitive applications, such as in medical and laboratory technology, to be quickly and easily lined.

The Cologne-based motion plastics specialist igus offers an easy way to reduce friction coefficients with its Tribo-Tapes made from friction-optimized polymer materials. Simply cut and optionally adhesive, these films, which are half a millimeter to a maximum of one millimeter thick, create a sliding surface and thus reduce the friction resistance in moving applications. This protects the components and simultaneously saves energy and operating costs, both in machine tools and conveyor systems.

Fourth Tribo-Tape for hygienic environments

After variants for high wear resistance, heat and media resistance, or food compliance according to FDA standards, igus now offers a fourth material with iglidur W160. Its antibacterial properties make the new Tribo-Tape an interesting material for hygiene-sensitive applications, such as in medical and laboratory technology. Thanks to its white color, the Tribo-Tape can also be used as a visible part in medical settings. “UV-stabilizing additives in the plastic compound additionally prevent changes in material properties caused by photooxidation,” emphasizes René Achnitz, Head of the iglidur Bearing Division. “This ensures that the maintenance-free iglidur W160 retains its tribological advantages even under UV light, for example in dental hardening or sterilization machines.” The sliding film can be ordered in various desired widths from 20 to 500 millimeters, optionally with an adhesive patch for easier installation. Through igus's cutting service, the film is also delivered precisely in width and length as meter goods or for custom-shaped parts. Even in limited installation spaces, Tribo-Tape W160 can be flexibly used to effectively and cost-efficiently significantly reduce wear in moving applications.
