MEZ-AEROSEAL: Before/After

From March 15 to 18, 2016, the 40th edition of the Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE) will take place. MEZ-TECHNIK will once again be present at this industry highlight with some innovative products in the fields of production, assembly & service of air duct systems.

There is hardly any need to talk about the necessity of airtight air ducts within the ventilation industry. EU directives specify the leak class B as the minimum requirement. Therefore, air duct manufacturers, system builders, and independent testing facilities are increasingly being asked to test air ducts for airtightness. The MEZ-DUCT-TESTER is a versatile device suitable for testing both at the manufacturer and on-site during construction. Through automatic or manual determination of air tightness classes, e.g., according to EN 1507, the device has a wide range of applications in laboratory setups, as well as from small to large systems. The compact and handy MEZ-DUCT-TESTER is easy to operate and features a clear and user-friendly menu interface. Advantages over other testing devices include significantly lower weight, more robust and space-saving hoses and connections, an integrated thermal printer, and direct data transfer to a USB stick.

MEZ-AEROSEAL – The new air tightness class

Air tightness tests in Europe show an average leakage of 15%. Some experts even claim that about one-third of the air does not reach its intended destination. The required leak classes C & D can only be achieved with considerable effort using current technology in installed air duct systems.

The innovative MEZ-AEROSEAL process offers a practical solution for retrofitting already installed air duct systems from the inside. This unique method spares users from various additional costly and time-consuming manual sealing measures, which generally do not deliver satisfactory results anyway.

The repeatedly awarded MEZ-AEROSEAL process reduces the leakage of air duct systems by an average of over 90% in the shortest possible time. During the sealing process, the Aeroseal sealant is destroyed and introduced into the air duct system. The particles of the sealant gradually close all existing leaks up to a diameter of 15 mm as they travel through the system.

The process itself requires only a few steps. All inlets and outlets of the air duct system are closed for preparation. The connections to climate and ventilation units or fans are disconnected, and the installed sensors are protected from the particles of the sealant. Then, the system is connected to the MEZ-AEROSEAL equipment, and the measurement and sealing process is controlled via software.

The MEZ-AEROSEAL method is the most effective and efficient measure to meet high requirements for airtightness, comfort, and hygiene, as the highest air tightness class D (according to DIN EN 1507, DIN EN 12237, Eurovent, or DW144 TM1) can now be achieved on-site without significant additional effort in a mounted system, and even leakage limits can be undershot. Before and after sealing with MEZ-AEROSEAL, the total leakage of the system is measured and documented in a certificate provided to the customer after sealing. The reduction in leakage achieved is also shown here.

Tighter air ducts are also a fundamental factor in meeting the requirements of EnEV (Ordinance on energy-saving thermal insulation and energy-efficient plant technology in buildings) and the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (NAPE), aiming to achieve a nearly climate-neutral building stock by 2050. The new EDL-G law, which mandates energy audits for non-SMEs since December 5, 2015, brings the MEZ-AEROSEAL process into focus for facility management, as it can be applied to both newly installed and existing air duct systems.

Demo Days at MEZ-TECHNIK

Regular live demonstrations of the AEROSEAL process are held at MEZ-TECHNIK in Reutlingen, southern Germany. After a brief theoretical introduction, interested visitors can see for themselves the effectiveness and speed of this technology. The next dates are scheduled for May and October 2016, but individual appointments are, of course, also possible upon request.
