New production site positions Wirthwein's medical division for further growth
Wirthwein builds new production site in Cerkezköy, Turkey
Since 2015, the Wirthwein Group has been producing plastic components for the home appliances and mobility sectors in Turkey with around 500 employees. The company, called “Farel Plastik A.Ş.,” is located in the industrial city of Çerkezköy, around 80 km from Istanbul. As Turkey offers interesting markets, particularly in medical technology, the new subsidiary Wirthwein Medikal A.Ş. was founded in 2024 to become active in this market segment in Turkey and in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The Çerkezköy plant is currently a key investment focus for the Wirthwein Group, with a new production facility set to be built here in the coming months.
Among other things, an ISO Class 8 clean room with automated assembly is being built for the newly founded company in Turkey, where high-quality, customer-specific plastic systems will be manufactured in the future, such as disposable diagnostic items, hospital consumables, primary packaging materials, and pharmaceutical devices. Modern production, storage, and office space will be created on 3,000 m². The production and logistics center is scheduled to go into operation in fall 2026.
Turkey offers great potential in the medical technology sector
With Wirthwein Medikal Türkiye, the Wirthwein Group is expanding its capacities in the medical technology division and bringing the expertise of its subsidiary Wirthwein Medical from Mühltal near Darmstadt to the Turkish market and thus to new regions. “The aim is to establish medical technology as a further business area at our existing location – and thus become a production and logistics center for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and selected EU markets,” explains Marcus Wirthwein, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Wirthwein SE.
“At Wirthwein Medikal Türkiye, we are investing not only in production facilities, but also in people, quality, and long-term regional value creation. This step reflects our strong commitment to innovation, localization, and building a sustainable production base for the future of healthcare in Europe, Turkey, the MENA region, and beyond,” explains Muhammet Tekin, Managing Director at Wirthwein Medikal Türkiye. “With this investment, we are consistently taking the next step in our planned internationalization in the medical technology business segment,” adds Dr. Thomas Jakob, Managing Director at Wirthwein Medical GmbH & Co. KG.
