New possibilities with the room automation system Open.Room from Neuberger

The Rothenburg specialist for building automation, room automation, and cleanroom technology is increasingly relying on KNX and DALI for room automation projects.

"Open.Room by Neuberger enables comprehensive and cross-disciplinary solutions with functions that go far beyond industry-standard capabilities and solutions," says Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Jürgen Metzger, Sales Manager at Neuberger. Especially the integration of room functions such as lighting, room climate, sun protection, room control, and display offers fundamental advantages for all involved parties.

Simple integration of KNX participants

Neuberger increasingly relies on the KNX interface for room automation projects. This allows easy integration of blind control, variable volume flow controllers, valves, dew point sensors, motion detectors, and room control devices. Installing a single bus line in the room results in high functionality, flexibility, and additionally reduces wiring effort and consequently fire load. Furthermore, Neuberger relies on the central intelligence of the Open.Room system. All group objects of all KNX participants are addressed on the KNX module (CM8400) of the Open.Room system. The regulation and control of all room functions take place within this system. This solution consistently offers advantages. Cross-disciplinary coordination and dependencies are reduced. Functionality and comfort, on the other hand, are increased. Efforts for installation and commissioning are reduced because only one contact person is integrated for all room functions.

DALI for controlling lighting technical devices

In addition to the KNX module, the Middle Franconian company increasingly uses controllers with DALI interface. The advantages here are obvious: The DALI module (CM8410) does not require an additional external power supply for the DALI loads due to the integrated power supply in the system. This saves additional hardware costs. The Neuberger controller is also extremely powerful. It enables BACnet integration with the device profile B-BC (for freely programmable automation devices). "We also expect the corresponding certification of the controller according to the requirements of BIG-EU shortly," Metzger continues.

The advantages of the Open.Room room automation system with KNX and/or DALI connection:

- Integral and cross-disciplinary solutions through systems from Neuberger
- Flexible room automation across disciplines via RoomDesigner
- Fast and easy integration of KNX and/or DALI bus systems
- More functionalities due to central intelligence
- IoT – Internet of Things with the MQTT protocol
- Selection and use of manufacturer-independent KNX participants such as field and control devices
- Cost reduction through lower hardware and material requirements
- Shortening of installation and commissioning times through optimized execution
- Certified controllers made by Neuberger
- Future-proof, flexible, and high-performance room automation system with spare parts guarantee and no product discontinuations

Thanks to its modular concept, the Open.Room room automation system not only supports KNX and DALI bus systems but also allows integration of EnOcean (wireless) and SMI. Direct connection of analog and digital signals to the Open.Room system is also possible. For system parameterization and programming, the PMC_Studio software is available. Configuration and commissioning are carried out with the RoomDesigner program. Both software solutions are proprietary developments from Neuberger. This provides users and operators with a comprehensive complete system from a single source, which also easily meets the requirements of a building according to EN 15232 for the GA energy efficiency class A.
