Sustainable production processes, environmentally and socially responsible digitalization, or sustainable product innovations – the students in the new Master's program in Sustainability Studies are never short of topics! Since October 2024, ten particularly committed individuals from diverse academic backgrounds have started their studies at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences. This interdisciplinary and project-based program places applied research at its core and focuses not only on sustainable management but also on technical aspects. Courses are offered from various departments of the university. The program is suitable, among others, for already employed individuals or caregiving relatives, as part-time study options are available. Additionally, the program is designed so that students can complete a significant part of their studies remotely and independently of time. Modern teaching and learning methods are employed to ensure that exchange and interaction are maintained.

In the first semester, the focus is primarily on joint knowledge acquisition and exchange, before students undertake their project work in 2025. Many will spend at least five months in companies, tackling complex sustainability issues. Some will also roll up their sleeves in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Students continue to work on sustainable packaging and textiles. Two students focus on digital processes within companies and examine measures to make these more sustainable, including in a pharmaceutical company. This topic often receives comparatively little attention, although digitalization can support environmental and climate protection. At the same time, digital components can require high energy and resource consumption. In the third and final semester, the master's thesis takes center stage, which can also be written in collaboration with companies or within applied research projects.

Applications are possible for both the winter and summer semesters.

If you are interested in the program, please feel free to contact us.

Do you have suitable projects, project ideas, or open questions related to sustainability in your company? Would you like to enable your employees to further qualify in sustainability topics? We look forward to hearing from you!
