New at Kundisch: battery-free e-paper with NFC interface

E-Paper with NFC chip offer a variety of application possibilities in the industry.

With E-Paper cards that can be quickly and easily written via Near Field Communication (NFC), Kundisch GmbH & Co. KG is permanently eliminating paper from the factory. Whether as manufacturing papers or locker signs – the applications of the cards, which are up to 4.2 inches in size, are diverse.

The potential of E-Paper is demonstrated by the foil keypad expert Kundisch with the product E-Paper NFC Tag. The company from Villingen-Schwenningen has developed into an entrepreneur in this field in the past. In combination with the communication interface NFC, the E-Paper opens up cost-effective options compared to expensive touchpads or tablets and traditional paper variants.

“It was obvious for us to combine E-Paper and NFC,” explains Sebastian Gepp, Development Manager at Kundisch. “And indeed, we have now succeeded in bringing a competitively priced product to market that offers many application possibilities.” The intelligent solution enables digital labeling and monitoring of items, as well as control of processes and logistical workflows.

No power supply needed

The NFC-controlled E-Paper displays are available in sizes 2.1 inches, 2.9 inches, and 4.2 inches and operate without power supplies or connections. E-Paper displays only require electricity to rearrange the pixels on the screen when the content is overwritten via the NFC reader. The mere display itself does not need additional energy.

For one customer, Kundisch has already delivered the new product as a custom solution – here, the rewritable E-Paper will replace manufacturing papers throughout the entire production process. Through readers supplied by Kundisch, the labeling and new tasks for employees are carried out on one side, while the station sends the status back to a central computer. From there, each step of the manufacturing process can be monitored and controlled. Integration into ERP systems is also possible, making this innovative product the ideal tool for Industry 4.0.
