Microplastic solutions for medical technology

KuZ at Medtec Europe 2015

Plastic microapplications for medical technology
Plastic microapplications for medical technology

The Plastics Center in Leipzig (KuZ) is presenting its services for the first time with its own booth at MEDTEC Europe 2015. Together with the four co-exhibitors, JENOPTIK Polymer Systems GmbH, KÖCKNER DESMA GmbH, WESKO GmbH, Max Petek Cleanroom Technology, plastic microapplications for medical technology are being showcased. Along the entire value chain, KuZ, in collaboration with its partners, demonstrates development expertise in the areas of:

Machine, cleanroom, tool, and application technology. As an example, a live demonstration of the production of micro-optical molded parts on the micro-injection molding machine formicaPlast® is running at the Stuttgart trade fair booth.

Microcomponents made of plastic for medical applications are increasingly gaining importance. The MiKA, the application center for microplastic technologies at KuZ, supports potential customers through research and development services in this high-tech product sector.

Recent developments are based, for example, on improving the quality of injection-molded micro-optical lenses for endoscopic medicine using the special process of micro-injection molding. The applicability of injection molding technology for the production of low-stress micro molded parts from plastics has been demonstrated with appropriate equipment for micro-injection molding.

The production of small implants from bioresorbable plastics places special demands on plasticization. Small, compact piston plasticizing units ensure gentle and material-efficient processing of the plastic melt for the manufacturing of these medical microcomponents. Due to their simple design, these units can be quickly and easily adapted to required specific shot weights.

Another innovative development is a small, high-stiffness compact extruder, which can be used as a basis or in combination with various plastic processing machines for micro-profile extrusion, e.g., for manufacturing tubing for resorbable stents.

Further possibilities regarding the manufacturing technology of microcomponents and micro-extrudates from plastics will be presented to interested visitors at MEDTEC Europe at booth 5H10.
