Lighting solutions for high hygiene requirements

The alphaomega Labor GbR in Leipzig is among the facilities where the analysis of PCR tests during the Corona pandemic played a significant role. In addition, the company offers a wide range of laboratory diagnostics as well as comprehensive hygiene management. Good vision is very important for work in the laboratory. When a two-story new building was occupied in Leipzig-Wiederitzsch in 2019, the rooms were therefore equipped with a tailored lighting concept and – adapted to the different requirements – high-quality lighting solutions – all from the lighting specialist Regiolux from Königsberg in Bavaria.

Bright rooms with high light quality

The high quality standards to which the laboratory has committed itself to ensure reliable diagnostics and testing also apply to the equipment of the rooms, which are intended to provide a motivating working environment for the staff. The lighting concept, commissioned from the lighting planning firm GW-Plan in Leipzig, focused primarily on a bright room atmosphere and high light quality. The selected luminaires ensure standard-compliant lighting with high illuminance levels and glare-free light at the computer workstations. They are visually appealing and simultaneously meet high hygienic requirements – up to certified cleanroom luminaires.

The lighting planners primarily opted for recessed luminaires that could be inconspicuously integrated into the suspended ceiling. Planner Dirk Münnich gives a very positive review: “The luminaires from Regiolux meet all requirements, were easy to install from the installer’s perspective, and so far, there have been no failures or technical problems – after all, the lighting has been in operation for more than two years. This speaks for the good quality of the LED luminaires.”

Cleanroom luminaire “protection IPA” for maximum safety in the laboratory

Although there were no cleanroom requirements for the luminaires in the laboratory rooms, the LED luminaire “protection IPA” from Regiolux, which is certified for cleanrooms, can demonstrate its advantages here. Besides excellent lighting technology, the main benefits are the material quality and outstanding lifespan. The specifications and manufacturing conditions of the cleanroom luminaire are verified by an IPA test according to DIN 14644-1. They confirm both the ease of cleaning and the necessary safety against microbial growth and microorganisms. Therefore, the protection IPA is suitable for use in cleanroom systems or – as in this case – with similarly high standards.

The protection IPA can be used as a design element, as it impresses both as a long-field and as a square LED luminaire. It features a higher protection class of IP54 and achieves a high-quality light output of 4,675 lm (light color 840 neutral white, Ra > 80) in the version with microprism diffuser. Thanks to good glare control, it is suitable for modern computer workstations. Its efficiency is 142 lm/W. The protection can be integrated into three ceiling systems. For general lighting, there is an attachment variant in the same design. The luminaire is equipped with DALI for light control.

Downlights for basic lighting

For basic lighting, the laboratory installed “loda” downlights from Regiolux, which could be inconspicuously integrated into the ceiling system in the corridors. The optics of the downlights focus almost exclusively on harmonious lighting effects thanks to a narrow housing ring and opal-white diffuser. Their robust construction, combined with high-quality LEDs and drivers, guarantees a long and maintenance-free lifespan. As a ready-to-connect LED lighting system, the downlights were quick and easy to install.

Lighting lines with flawless illumination

The “hocal” luminaire from Regiolux was also used in the laboratory rooms. Arranged in series as a light channel, it creates continuous linear effects in offices and representative rooms. The advantage of the light channels is that they do not interfere with the room’s effect or structure. With the hocal luminaires, flawless illuminated light lines without dark spots have been created. The hocal offers lighting technologies for all applications: versions with BAP-compatible multilayer microprismatics or microparabolic raster, as well as frosted diffusers. With the three available mounting options, all challenges could be mastered.

The auxiliary rooms of the laboratory are illuminated with moisture-proof luminaires parsa from Regiolux, which achieve excellent luminous efficacy. The luminaire is extremely robust and flexible, offers protection class IP65 with D-mark, and is virtually maintenance-free.
