Life Science Factory is expanding
New innovation site in Munich opened in cooperation with Helmholtz Munich
The Life Science Factory opened its new location in early November 2024 on the Helmholtz campus in Munich. Starting in 2025, startups and researchers from the life sciences will have access to modern laboratories and a flexible co-working space across approximately 1,800 square meters. Here, established teams receive targeted support on market-relevant topics and can utilize fully equipped infrastructure that enables them to accelerate their developments at low cost.
Munich location strengthens nationwide life science network
Through the cooperation between the Life Science Factory and Helmholtz Munich, scientific excellence and entrepreneurial competence are combined at one site. The interdisciplinary approaches from biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and engineering sciences associated with this also provide new impulses for research and development.
"Germany's biotech location is strong scientifically but lags behind internationally in startups. The concept of our Life Science Factory fills this gap and creates a flexible and high-performance platform for startups to build their businesses. We are excited to now jointly make our innovation ecosystem available at one of the most important life sciences locations in Germany," emphasizes Dr. Joachim Kreuzburg, CEO of Sartorius AG and initiator of the Life Science Factory.
Opening as a platform for startups
The opening event already provided an initial insight into the potential of the location: startups Smartbax, 2NA FISH, and DeepPiction took the opportunity to present their projects and exchange ideas with potential investors and industry experts. Prof. Matthias Tschöp, CEO of Helmholtz Munich, highlights the importance of the partnership: "The Life Science Factory complements our existing innovation network perfectly. Together, we are creating an ecosystem that connects research and industry even more closely."
Successful model from Göttingen transferred to Munich
Dr. Sven Wagner and Tatjana Kasper, managing directors of the Life Science Factory, emphasized in their opening speech that the experiences at the Göttingen location form an important foundation for targeted support of startups in Munich. From 2025, young companies will not only have access to an already established infrastructure but will also benefit from extensive mentoring programs, a variety of consulting services, and access to a broad network. Wagner and Kasper stressed the importance of creating a dynamic environment that actively supports the development of life science technologies and provides startups with the necessary resources to successfully bring their innovations to market.
