The MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV), a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions, announced today the expansion of its top-performance center for pharmaceutical manufacturing in Hemer (Germany).
The center forms the hub of MWV's global manufacturing network for pharmaceutical dispenser systems. The project, estimated at $7.5 million, includes expanded cleanroom molding and assembly capacities and the introduction of a state-of-the-art logistics system for process control of finished goods and components. MWV is investing in its Healthcare Products division, which is currently experiencing rapid growth, particularly in the preservative-free packaging market.
"This investment underscores MWV's position as a leading provider of innovative dispenser systems for healthcare products and demonstrates our commitment to manufacturing high-quality products within the respective regulatory environment," said Sven-Uwe Höhm, Vice President & General Manager, Medical Plastics Division.
The current top-performance center consists of cleanrooms for precision injection molding and ultra-fast component assembly, R&D facilities with fluid dispensing, fluid destruction, and design optimization. It also includes extensive material expertise and project management support. The center further offers customer service, technical, and coating specialists. MWV's healthcare products meet the requirements of ISO 9001, the quality management system for medical devices ISO 13485, GMP ISO 15378, and the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC Annex 5.
Construction of the expansion will begin in early 2013, with work expected to be completed by the end of the year.
