The cross table KDT600 from Steinmeyer Mechatronik achieves throughput significantly above those of crossed spindle tables due to its size and the use of linear motors. Its unique feature is the large through-hole. The aperture allows measurements of multiple microtiter plates from both sides or with transmission illumination, even when loaded. Ideal for life science and biotech applications as well as drug screening in pharmaceuticals.

With the KDT600, the Dresden positioning specialist Steinmeyer Mechatronik offers a large XY table for rapid scanning tasks, enabling highly precise examination of biological or medical samples within the shortest possible time. Even applications with a large number of samples and high-throughput processes require only a few loading cycles. Up to 12 well plates can be placed over a travel distance of 350 mm on the extraordinarily large through-hole of 400 mm. The bottom illumination of the samples ensures perfect screening of bioreactions.

Positioning system for fast scanning applications and dynamic axis movements

By using polished crossed roller guides and ground table plates, a repeatability of ±0.15 µm in straightness and flatness is achieved. Thanks to this high precision, only minimal refocusing is necessary even with optics of very short focal length. The non-magnetic linear motor guarantees a finely tuned drive without disturbing influence on the process parameters. At the same time, the linear motor provides high dynamics. Accelerations up to 3 m/s² and peak speeds of 500 mm/s ensure short scan times; even in start-stop mode, extremely fast scan results are achieved. For equal acceleration values in X and Y, optional double motors can be used on the lower axis. The internal feedback system with 0.1-µm resolution and thus possible positioning steps of 0.3 µm allows the use of high-resolution optics even with micro-wells.

Replacement for air bearing tables

The KDT600 is designed for the highest repeatability and achieves accuracy through compensation that was previously only possible with air bearing systems. It offers significantly lower cost while maintaining comparable performance. This benefits especially applications in the life sciences and biotech sectors, as well as drug screening in pharmaceuticals. Cleanroom requirements are met, and a nickel coating is optionally available for disinfectable surfaces. In case of service, the table can be easily separated from the housed cable management system. This shortens maintenance time and simplifies integration.
