K 2013: Two FOBOHA cube forms in operation
Foboha displays a die shape on two partner stands for the manufacturing of closures for the beverage packaging industry. For the first time, two fully electric double-station rotary systems will be showcased at the K' Messe.
Fully electric driven tools are the optimal solution for use in fully electric injection molding machines. Foboha has addressed this requirement and has developed and built the first fully electric die systems. All drives (axes) of these tools – from the ejector to the rotary unit to the removal handling – are equipped with servo motors. With this, the company once again sets new standards in the field of die shapes. On the Ferromatik Milacron stand in Hall 15, on a F 270 CUBE, a 4 x 8 + 8-cavity tool will be shown for manufacturing a closure system for beverage bottles or nutritional supplements.
The special feature is that eight lower and eight upper parts are injected per parting line. In the 90° position perpendicular to the machine's longitudinal axis, the upper parts are removed from the tool by a handling system fully integrated into the mold and directly screwed onto the lower parts, which remain in the cavity for this process step. The advantage of the system, besides its compactness, lies in its excellent assembly precision and the associated high production availability. Parts are always assembled from the same cavities. The self-designed and built electric handling system is programmed via a specially developed Foboha control unit.
The product is a two-piece screw cap that, in the closed state, can hold a UV-sensitive powder. As soon as the cap is opened, the powder trickles into the bottle and dissolves in the liquid contained inside.
The second fully electric double-station rotary system runs at the Arburg stand in Hall 13 on an Allrounder 720 A with 3,200 kN clamping force. A two-component closure for carton packaging (juice packaging) is injected. The 12 + 12-cavity pilot tool serves as the basis for a high-cavity serial mold, specifically designed to meet the requirements for mass production of parts. The guidance of the die in the patented FOBOHA rotary unit, where the mold is held at the top and bottom, is an important part of the system to guarantee the fastest possible cycle time with minimal tool wear.
This closure uses two incompatible materials to keep the injection-molded part movable. The company uses its in-house, specially developed hot runner system for high-cavity molds for both the preforms and the finished parts. For the preforms, an open hot runner system is used; for overmolding in the second station, a needle valve system. The advantage of the in-house system is the perfect design of the hot runner for the high demands of this application. The fully functional and movable injection parts can be used directly in the carton packaging without post-assembly work.
The Adval Tech Foboha team is available for consultation on the entire product range at their own booth in Hall 01 / A24.
