Interview: "Heat pumps have more potential than expected"

The management of the trade fair Chillventa and the European Heat Pump Summit will be taken over by Alexander Stein (40) starting November 1, 2013. He succeeds the event manager Gabriele Hannwacker, who is retiring after a 35-year career as an organizer and more than 25 years of service in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Stein brings a wealth of experience from 16 years in the trade fair business. In the interview, the two trade fair experts discuss their joint plans for the two events and talk about the highlights of the European Heat Pump Summit, which will enter its third edition on October 15 and 16, 2013, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center.

"Mr. Stein, you studied Business Administration with a focus on environmentally oriented corporate management and subsequently co-developed trade fairs for Nuremberg Messe. Most recently, you worked in the event team for BIOFACH, the world’s leading trade fair for organic food. From which perspective do you view the connection between economy and ecology for the heat pump?"

Alexander Stein:
"Efficiency and energy savings are also crucial in refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and heat pumps. However, the contribution of these industries goes far beyond that, especially when it comes to the heat pump: it not only helps reduce CO2 emissions but also plays a role in the energy transition, including the use of renewable energies. For example, I think of the combination of direct use of solar power for the heat pump."

"Chillventa and the European Heat Pump Summit provide the industry with an annual platform to exchange ideas on innovations and markets. Ms. Hannwacker, what role does the heat pump play for the Nuremberg trade fair location?"

Gabriele Hannwacker:
"Since 2008, Chillventa has been the meeting point for international experts on refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and heat pumps. From the very beginning, the heat pump has been prominently represented at Chillventa. Since 2009, the European Heat Pump Summit has expanded the information offering for heat pump experts during the years between Chillventa editions. As a congress event with an accompanying foyer expo, the European Heat Pump Summit brings together planners and operators, science and research, as well as manufacturers of heat pumps and components. Environmental compatibility, resource conservation, and sustainability – in all these aspects, the heat pump can demonstrate an excellent balance. We are committed to helping the heat pump gain the recognition it deserves."

Alexander Stein:
"The range of topics extends from components and systems to market analyses on an international level.
