Innovative packaging solutions for more efficient and sustainable processes
Protection at Fachpack 2024
In addition to safety and economic aspects, the topic of sustainability is increasingly gaining importance in the use of industrial packaging. Schütz offers its customers a comprehensive solution based on the most advanced technology, combining innovative products with extensive service to ensure the highest quality, best performance, and global delivery security. This holistic concept is explained by Schütz at Fachpack under the motto “Containing everything that matters”.
Ecological industrial packaging plays a key role in making supply chains more sustainable and reducing the CO2 footprint of industrial companies. In this context, recycling and reprocessing are becoming increasingly important as resources become scarcer and more expensive. Based on this principle, especially the packaging of the Green Layer series is developed. In this product line, Schütz incorporates a 30% share of high-quality, natural-colored recycled material into the middle layer of each packaging. This recycled material is recovered through the company's own global return program for empty packaging. At Fachpack, Schütz presents its entire Green Layer product portfolio in the areas of IBCs, plastic drums, and canisters.
Pallet solutions optimized for automated conveyor technology
The new environmentally friendly plastic frame pallet from Schütz, made from high-quality recycled plastic from Schütz itself, is used in IBCs. Due to its geometry, this new packaging component is particularly suitable for internal transport of containers on conveyor systems and has been specifically developed for safe transport in automated warehouses. The plastic frame pallet is extremely robust and stable, providing optimal protection for the IBC in demanding storage and production environments.
This is also true for the second pallet innovation presented by Schütz at Fachpack: the 3-bale steel pallet with embossed steel runners. Compared to the standard steel pallet, it features an additional center runner, which, through a widened support surface, ensures improved weight distribution. This IBC pallet is extremely robust, exhibits minimal deflection under load, and has significantly improved handling properties.
Laser-welded steel drums for particularly demanding filling goods
In the steel drum segment, the packaging specialist presents, among other things, the innovative Schütz laser drum, made of double-sided galvanized steel sheet. The raw material is dipped in a zinc melt bath before coil winding and receives a high-quality, evenly distributed zinc coating through galvanization. The body of the drum is manufactured using a special laser welding process, where the sheet is welded at the seam. The Schütz laser drum is reliably protected against corrosion both inside and outside immediately after lid and bottom assembly. This new drum type is particularly suitable for demanding and sensitive filling products that have previously been filled in conventionally galvanized or internally painted drums.
Combi-steel drums with plastic inner container
The new Schütz Combi-steel drum offers even more safety and purity. It combines either the new galvanized laser drum or a painted standard steel drum with an inner container made of HDPE plastic. The space between is sealed with a round gasket, providing double leak protection. This packaging solution is especially suitable for chemicals that are incompatible with raw steel or conventional internal coatings. This applies, for example, to particularly demanding filling goods in the so-called Packaging Group I with highly permeable, aggressive, and corrosive properties. Thus, Schütz combines the corrosion resistance and cleanliness of a plastic drum with the stability and permeation protection of a steel drum.
For efficient load securing during transport of steel drums with bung, Schütz also presents a new solution: the Schütz Drumfix system, which allows the quick, simple, and environmentally friendly formation of secure load units from four drums and one pallet.
Secure flammable hazardous materials: new variant of Ecobulk SX-D
Schütz has developed the Ecobulk SX-D as a double-walled system for the transport and storage of flammable hazardous liquids. This container model offers maximum protection through a sealed, fire-resistant outer shell made of steel and is approved by FM Global and Underwriters Laboratories (UL). At Fachpack, Schütz introduces a new variant that features an integrated access to a valve, allowing discharge from below. The full leak and fire protection remains intact even with the protective cover closed.
With the license to stir: the Schütz Impeller
For maximum safe and efficient stirring and homogenization of viscous filling materials in IBCs, the packaging specialist offers the revolutionary, self-contained Schütz Impeller, which will also be on display at the fair. It is a single-use agitator that is already installed in the container at the factory. The special beaker agitator features movable blades that automatically lift as the rotation speed increases. This homogenizes filling products gently and without bubble formation, completely dissolving sediments and minimizing product loss. The impeller is made of HDPE, the same chemically resistant material as the IBC inner containers, and is firmly integrated into the screw cap of the filling opening. With appropriate process and container configuration, the agitator does not need to be removed during filling. As a closed system, the impeller eliminates quality risks and associated costs, such as contamination from inserting and removing market-standard stainless steel agitators and their reuse. Thus, the impeller is an optimal solution for stirring paints and lacquers, sealants, adhesives, and certain chemicals with higher viscosity.
MX 560: optimal performance in storage, handling, and transport
With the Ecobulk MX 560, Schütz presents a packaging solution at Fachpack that combines low weight compared to stainless steel containers or drums with a low container height. With its reduced capacity of 560 liters on an optimal footprint, the MX 560 enables lower capital commitment and shorter storage times with low product turnover. This is particularly advantageous in industries where no large packages are needed due to highly concentrated filling goods—for example, in agriculture and agro-chemicals (concentrated plant protection or seed treatment agents with high product value). The base of the MX 560 corresponds to those of the Schütz MX series with capacities of 820, 1000, and 1250 liters, making the container compatible with all other models in the MX line. The pallet size allows optimal utilization of storage and transport space in standardized large-volume containers, even with mixed loads. This offers a significant advantage, for example, in sea freight.
Further information will be available from September 24 to 26 at Fachpack in Nuremberg at the SCHÜTZ booth 6-328 in Hall 6.
