Innovative air and drive technology for medical technology

The Compamed trade fair is the leading international exhibition for high-tech medical technology. This year, the fair will take place from November 18th to November 21st, 2019. ebm-papst will showcase innovative solutions from air and drive technology for the medical industry in Hall 08B, Stand 8BH27.

Radial Fans for Alternating Pressure Mattresses

From the field of air technology, ebm-papst presents innovative solutions such as the DC radial fan RV45, available in versions with integrated electronics and without – depending on what is most suitable for the application. The fan is used wherever dynamic air transport with high static pressure buildup is required. Examples include respiratory masks, ventilators, or an anti-decubitus system. The alternating pressure mattress is a prophylactic measure that reduces pressure on vulnerable skin areas for bedridden patients. The radial fan inflates air-filled chambers in a mattress, shifts the patient, and thus prevents bedsores. It is important that the noise level is kept as low as possible so as not to disturb the patient's sleep.

Drives for Medical Applications

In medical technology, high demands are placed on the used technology, alongside strict normative and documentation requirements. These include reliability, precision, smooth operation, and minimal heating. The drive power, gear designs, reduction stages, controls, or connection techniques are optimally matched to each application. ebm-papst's individually configurable outer and inner rotor drives, based on electronically commutated motors, are well suited for such applications. The drive kit allows for the assembly of the appropriate variant by combining different modules, such as electronics with various interfaces, different gear types, brakes, encoders, etc.

The compact, efficient, and intelligent drive systems are used in a variety of medical devices, such as dental chairs, X-ray, diagnostic, and therapy equipment. In the operating room, these drives ensure optimal alignment of lighting systems or precise adjustment of operating tables to the required position. The small installation space of the ECI-42 drives makes them ideal for use in stairlifts, for example, for leveling.
