Infrareal takes over Takeda's pharma and biotech site in Orth
Infrareal Holding GmbH & Co. KG announced today the completion of the acquisition of the pharmaceutical and biotech site in Orth, Lower Austria.
– Acquisition of Pharmapark Orth is an important step in the expansion strategy of the Infrareal Group
– The PharmaparkOrth Management GmbH will become the owner and operator of the pharmaceutical and biotech site in Austria as a subsidiary of Infrareal Holding GmbH & Co. KG.
– Infrareal will take over more than 30 employees at the site as of May 31, 2025, who, with their expertise, will ensure a reliable continuation of current operations as well as drive development and expansion.
Infrareal, through its subsidiary PharmaparkOrth Management GmbH, is acquiring from Takeda a 24-hectare plot of land along with buildings, infrastructure facilities, and some pharmaceutical production plants. Both companies already signed a corresponding announcement in November 2024.
The acquisition is a significant step in the expansion strategy of the Infrareal Group with the goal of becoming one of the leading operators of pharma and life science parks in Europe. "I am very grateful and proud of my colleagues who, together with the Takeda team, have gone through very intensive months of work. The successful completion of the transaction marks a milestone in our company history," says Dr. Martin Egger, CEO and spokesperson of Infrareal's management.
At Pharmapark in Orth, in addition to the existing buildings and facilities, the available outdoor areas are to be developed and marketed in the future to generate further growth. Discussions with several interested companies from the biotechnology sector are already underway. Through synergies and innovative infrastructure solutions, Infrareal enables optimization potentials and growth opportunities at all its locations. This creates long-term prospects for companies in the fields of pharma, biotech, and life sciences.
"We look forward to future cooperation with the Infrareal corporate group. As owner and operator, they have a clear goal to further develop the Orth site, create synergies, and continue to promote sustainable processes and decarbonization," explains Christian Froeschl-Drahos, Quality Site Manager at Takeda in Orth.
The facilities and infrastructure of the Pharmapark, with its highly qualified staff and proximity to Vienna Airport and the Austrian capital, make Orth an attractive location for internationally active companies in the biopharmaceutical industry.
In addition to Takeda, Pfizer Manufacturing GmbH is also located at the site, making it another major international pharmaceutical company. "We are very pleased with the decision of the Infrareal Group to invest here at the site. It shows that they are also convinced of the great potential of the Pharma and biotech location Orth, which will further strengthen our region," says the Mayor of Orth, Elisabeth Wagnes, who unfortunately could not personally welcome the new owners. Josef Drabits, Vice Mayor of Orth, represented her and had the opportunity to get to know the site and the employees.
