Mobile cleanrooms evoke memories of camping from youth among many market experts. Completely unjustified, as the stable yet highly flexible and cost-effective rental cleanrooms from a company in Aachen demonstrate. The market is just beginning to understand this.

When in early 2017 the concept of a fully air-supported cleanroom under the name “SphairLab” was introduced to the market, reactions were quite divided. On one hand, there was much praise for the innovative concept and futuristic design. The founding of SphairLab was a product and concept development born out of necessity from Jens Hutzenlaub’s company Mecora, which rightfully received a lot of attention. However, attention does not automatically equate to market success. As is well known, success requires the right idea at the right time. And apparently, 2017 was not yet the right time. It is all the more gratifying that further projects have since emerged from the SphairLab cooperation, which could be called “offspring”.

For example, Hemovent GmbH, which at the time was still located in the same building as Mecora and had rented a cleanroom workspace in the SphairLab at Mecora, has now purchased its own SphairLab. The young company specializes in developing innovative concepts for heart-lung machines — called ECMO — and has created a revolutionary, portable, fully integrated ECMO machine in a handbag format with its MOBYBOX, which doesn’t even need a power connection. This earned the young company the AC2 Innovation Award of the Aachen region in 2021.

Organic growth takes time

Another “offspring” of the original cooperation is the company REINRAUM-MIETEN, founded by Wolfgang Hassa. The clever entrepreneur, who initially designed hot air balloons and Zeppelins and later, with his company Airworxx, specialized in manufacturing textile architecture for art, trade fairs, and events, has transferred the modular principle similar to LEGO into the cleanroom world.

This resulted in a quickly available, cost-effective solution for all users who only need to use a cleanroom for a certain period and therefore want to rent it at best. In the past, this was not so easy. With QUATTRO, a modular “cleanroom tent” with a connectable frame and a tent-like cover, many of the previous disadvantages are now replaced by some new advantages. Today’s users seeking a cleanroom that is available at short notice, flexible in use, economical, and also ISO-compliant will be pleased with this high-quality interim solution.

Rental cleanrooms via online shop

As is customary with rental objects, the costs for this cleanroom only incur during the usage period and are immediately depreciable. The object can be assembled within a few hours and also dismantled again, all without complicated approval procedures. All cleanliness classes from cleanroom to ISO are possible, higher classes or GMP upon request. The floor plans and room design are also very flexible. Win-Win-Win in the rental park

Even more momentum could be gained by a brand-new project with GfPS under the wing of Hassa’s rental cleanrooms. The Aachen-based Gesellschaft für Produktionshygiene und Sterilitätssicherung mbH recently decided to rent a 900 m² hall directly next to its main building and set up a “Cleanroom Valley” with the concept of a coworking cleanroom. Based on the cleanroom rental concept, GfPS will offer its customers the possibility to rent individual cleanrooms to develop and manufacture their products. GfPS can qualify these directly on site. Dr. Simon Dietz, an employee of the DIN committee for cleanroom technology and also a member of the relevant VDI committee, will contribute his experience in this area. A classic win-win, from which both sides benefit. Strictly speaking, this is even a win-win-win: the cooperation benefits the cleanroom rentals, GfPS, and the respective cleanroom tenants. One provides the environment, the other tests the product, and the customer gets everything from a single source at one location.
