80 years of company history are more than just a number. They stand for courage, change, and a strong will to continue growing. What began in 1946 as a small craft business under the name Riegler is today an internationally active company that makes an important contribution to people's health worldwide through state-of-the-art technologies.

On April 1, 1946, Fritz Albert Riegler laid the foundation for this success story by building die-cutting tools, at a time marked by uncertainty and deprivation. But it was precisely under these difficult conditions that what still characterizes the company today became evident: entrepreneurial spirit, perseverance, and a forward-looking mindset.

From 1949, products for hair cosmetics were manufactured on hand-operated machines. In the following years, the portfolio steadily developed, from applications for cosmetics to the food and personal care industries. At the same time, the company invested early in new technologies, machinery, and manufacturing processes, laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.

In its early years, the company from Mühltal developed into a reliable partner for customized solutions, laying the foundation for its current role as an established system supplier.

The breakthrough: From plastic processor to medical technology specialist

A phase of rapid growth began in the 1970s: new buildings were constructed, manufacturing capacities in injection molding and extrusion blow molding were expanded, and modern technologies were introduced. However, the decisive turning point came in the early 1990s. With the entry into medical technology and cleanroom production, the company set the course for its current orientation. The first products were packaging trays and cleaning systems for contact lenses, as well as development projects for dentistry.

At the same time, the company entered the diagnostics industry: bottles, closures, and other primary packaging materials for a globally successful line of analysis devices were developed and produced. This product line remains a rapidly growing segment to this day. The chosen path paid off and brought the company into a new dimension.

New structures, new strength

In 2005, a further milestone was reached with the sale to the family-managed Wirthwein SE. Integration into the internationally active corporate group opened new opportunities for growth, investments, and technological advancement.

In the following years, manufacturing capacities were strategically expanded, new locations developed, and digitalization pursued consistently. Particularly, the expansion of cleanroom capacities laid the foundation for meeting the increasing demands of global customers.

A significant step in the company's history took place in 2020: after more than seven decades, the name "Riegler" was dropped, and the company has since operated as Wirthwein Medical GmbH & Co. KG. A new name that reflects the company's expanded international focus while building on a strong tradition.

Innovation as a growth driver

The past years have shown impressively how consistently the company continues its innovation course. This includes expanding cleanroom capacities, investing in new manufacturing technologies, and the continuous digitalization and full automation of processes.

The introduction of its own product, WIM Ject®, a pre-filled syringe, marks another milestone for Wirthwein Medical. In addition to contract manufacturing, it creates a second pillar with its own innovative system solutions. With a location in Turkey, the international orientation of the medical division is further advanced. The commissioning of the expanded cleanroom production is planned for fall 2026.

Success is created in the team

Despite all technological development, one thing remains constant: success is based on the people within the company. Commitment, experience, and a close connection continue to shape the corporate culture today. Training of own specialists has always been a high priority. Many employees began their careers at the company and have remained loyal for decades. Employment tenures of 25, 40, or even 50 years are not uncommon.

With a clear view of the future

Today, Wirthwein Medical produces around 10 million plastic components and systems daily. Manufactured with innovative technologies and processes, they are used worldwide in diagnostics, medical technology, and pharmaceuticals.
