igus sets new standards in the catalog

igus has once again added over 100 iglidur articles to the standard range of the sliding bearing catalog in time for Motek. Among them are new dimensions of the particularly temperature-resistant material iglidur X. The diverse catalog program is thus becoming even broader to offer the right sliding bearing for every application – and available quickly from stock.

The igus sliding bearing catalog currently includes around 12,000 products. This fall, 117 additional iglidur products will be added, which at igus means these items will be available from stock. Among the new features is the expansion of the dimension range of the particularly temperature- and media-resistant material iglidur X by six sizes from 80 to 120 millimeters inner diameter. "Until now, there were mainly the 'standard materials' iglidur G, J, and W300 in these large diameters. Our high-temperature classic iglidur X was missing here," explains René Achnitz, Head of the iglidur sliding bearing business unit at igus. The material is suitable for permanent use at temperatures from -100°C to +250°C and has particularly high compressive strength as well as universal media resistance. The expansion of the standard program results from the outcomes of laboratory and practical tests and, above all, from direct contact with customers.

Both the high number of catalog products and the continuous growth mainly result from the variety of materials that igus offers. The range extends from cost-effective iglidur all-round bearings to FDA-compliant bearings to high-temperature and underwater bearings. This diversity is also demonstrated in the dry-tech box, which can be ordered free of charge from igus at www.igus.de/box. The box is an "offline" version of the product finder at igus. Thanks to the included templates, the different materials can be filtered according to various criteria such as temperature, chemical resistance, or food contact, allowing the optimal material for the individual application to be determined.

Install and forget

iglidur sliding bearings do not require external lubrication, making them dry-running and maintenance-free. Following the motto "install and forget," they perform their service reliably and contribute to machine safety. According to MIT in Boston, the failure costs due to insufficient lubrication in the USA amount to around 240 billion dollars. The lifespan of the sliding bearings can be easily calculated online. The basis for this are the results from continuous tests conducted by igus on durability, friction, and wear in their own 1,750-square-meter testing laboratory. Over 15,000 sliding bearing tests are carried out here annually.
