Hessian Minister for Science and Art Boris Rhein assumes patronage for the Cleanzone trade fair

Cleanroom plays an important role for Hessian high-tech companies

The Hessian Minister for Science and Art Boris Rhein is taking on the patronage for the first time this year for the trade fair for cleanroom technology, Cleanzone, on November 8 and 9, 2016, in Frankfurt am Main. Boris Rhein states: "I am pleased to have taken on the patronage for Cleanzone 2016. Especially for Hesse as a research and production location for the fields of pharmaceuticals, optics, aerospace, micro- and nanotechnology, university clinics, medical technology, and food technology, the cleanroom plays a significant role."

Cleanzone showcases solutions for clean production environments that are free from tiny dust particles and germs. Many high-tech products such as mobile phones, computers, solar cells, LEDs, displays, highly complex lithium-ion batteries, biotechnological pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or highly sensitive foods are now manufactured in cleanrooms to reduce production failures on the one hand and to meet the high standards of product quality and safety on the other. Wolfgang Marzin, Chairman of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, says: "That the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art is this year’s patron of Cleanzone strengthens and emphasizes the importance of the trade fair as an exchange platform between research, development, manufacturing, and application. Cleanzone will thus receive new valuable impulses."

With ongoing digitalization, many machines and products are already equipped with microcomputers. Microchips are also playing an increasingly important role in medical technology. Due to the continuous miniaturization of components, the requirements for the production environment are growing. Even the tiniest particles in the nanometer range – more than 1,000 times smaller than a millimeter and no longer visible to the naked eye – can cause production failures during the manufacturing of microchips.

Highly complex biotechnologically produced medicines, which cannot be sterilized by heating because they would lose their effectiveness, must be produced in cleanrooms. Consumers are pleased with toast and cold cuts that last longer without preservatives because they are manufactured and packaged in cleanrooms. Experts expect the cleanroom area to grow in all these and other industries in the coming years.

As an interdisciplinary platform, Cleanzone brings together all high-tech industries that produce in cleanrooms, offering the opportunity to look beyond one's own horizon and learn from the experiences of other sectors. Opportunities for intensive exchange with experts can be found at the Cleanzone Congress and on the action stage Cleanzone Plaza. Messe Frankfurt has been organizing this trade fair successfully since 2012, with the number of exhibitors steadily increasing and more than tripling since then.
