Groundbreaking ceremony for SCHOTT's new pharmaceutical packaging plant in Müllheim

With the groundbreaking ceremony, the specialty glass manufacturer SCHOTT has given the go-ahead at its Müllheim site for the construction of a new production facility for sterile pharmaceutical primary packaging made of polymers. The state-of-the-art plant, planned and to be realized with the support of IE Plast, is expected to be built by 2022 with an investment volume in the three-digit million range and will then create 100 additional jobs.

The new plant will be built on the existing factory grounds on a footprint of 11,000 square meters. The new construction project includes, besides the production building with the latest cleanroom technology, a pilot center for innovation development, a logistics center, and an integrated administrative area. "The establishment of this new production means a tremendous strengthening for our site here in Müllheim. Because in addition to glass pharmaceutical vials, we will now also produce sterile prefillable polymer containers, specifically syringes, as a second pillar," explained SCHOTT site manager Bernhard Langner.

IE Plast was commissioned in Munich to plan the comprehensive operational and logistics processes and to realize this demanding project. Furthermore, IE Plast supports the qualification and validation processes.

The goal is to develop an industrial building that is optimally tailored to the production processes and can also be flexibly adapted to dynamic market changes in the future, while reflecting the high standards of design and aesthetics of the building.

With this project, IE Plast was once again able to convince a renowned company in the medical technology industry of its expertise in planning and implementing demanding production facilities. Due to their many years of experience, the operations engineers, logisticians, and architects at IE Plast understand the specific production processes precisely and are familiar with the individual requirements of SCHOTT AG. That is why the project is being planned comprehensively and integrally.
