Groundbreaking ceremony for new logistics center in Himmelkron
MANN+HUMMEL is constructing a new logistics center at the Himmelkron site covering approximately 17,000 m². The filtration manufacturer will expand the site to become the Center of Competence for Molecular Filtration.
Together with the Mayor of the municipality of Himmelkron, Gerhard Schneider, and representatives of the involved companies, MANN+HUMMEL will break ground on July 22 for the construction of the new logistics center. The completion and commissioning of the logistics center in the industrial area are planned for summer 2023.
At the Himmelkron site, MANN+HUMMEL produces particulate filters and activated carbon filters for both the automotive industry and private applications such as range hoods. The new logistics center includes logistics space of more than 17,000 m² as well as new office rooms for nearly 30 employees. "With the major investment of nearly 25 million euros in the expansion of the plant, we can supply the site more efficiently logistically and cover growth through the relocation of the MANN+HUMMEL Molecular Filtration division from Gefrees," said Bernd Kolb, Managing Director and Plant Manager of Himmelkron.
"We are especially pleased that we are building to the KFW55 EE standard, which is particularly energy-efficient, and thus making a significant contribution to our sustainability goals. Thanks to a planned photovoltaic system, we will even generate our own electricity and be able to heat independently," explained MANN+HUMMEL project manager Thomas Kohlpaintner.
The groundbreaking ceremony was celebrated by employees from the Himmelkron and Gefrees locations, who jointly marked the occasion with a summer festival afterward.
