Gerresheimer invests in a new plant for medical plastic systems and syringes in Skopje, North Macedonia

The Gerresheimer AG will build a new plant in Skopje, North Macedonia. "As part of our growth strategy, we need additional capacities and are expanding our European production network. For the production of plastic systems for the pharmaceutical industry and medical technology as well as pre-fillable syringes, we will establish a new plant in Skopje. North Macedonia is an ideal location for expanding our production. It offers good infrastructure and cost structure, trained skilled workers, and excellent support from the authorities," explains Dietmar Siemssen, CEO of Gerresheimer AG.

Gerresheimer is investing a mid-double-digit million-euro amount in the new plant in the North Macedonian capital of Skopje, which is already part of the medium-term investment plan. Construction will begin in the first half of 2019, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2020. Production of the first products is planned to start in the second half of 2020. The plant will produce medical plastic systems and, in a further expansion phase, also pre-fillable glass syringes. In the medium term, up to 400 jobs could be created at the plant. The plant belongs to the Plastics & Devices business area, specifically to the Medical Systems division. The construction of the plant, training of skilled workers, and setup of production will be closely supported and accompanied by the Gerresheimer Development Center in Wackersdorf (Germany) and the European sister plants in Pfreimd (Germany), Bünde (Germany), and Horsovsky Tyn (Czech Republic). Gerresheimer produces in plants in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. The Skopje plant will be Gerresheimer's first plant in Southeast Europe.
