CADENAS and GANTER are once again seeking pioneers in the field of standardization. Targeted use of standard and purchased parts in engineering will be rewarded with prizes totaling 4,000 euros.

Every two years, engineers, designers, technicians, and hobbyists have the chance to demonstrate what good product development is all about: From April 1 to June 30, 2019, they can submit their designs with as high a proportion as possible of standard and purchased parts at www.deutscher-normteile-award.de and win attractive cash prizes in the German Standard Parts Award competition.

Save product costs early in engineering through targeted use of standard and purchased parts

Engineers, technicians, technical draftsmen, and CAD users today significantly influence the later costs of a new product and thus the competitiveness of a company. Studies show that 70% of total product costs can be influenced during the development phase.

A key factor in cost-sensitive product development is the use of standardized components in engineering. The goal of the award is to raise awareness for increased use of standard and purchased parts and the resulting benefits for companies.

Participate now and win prizes worth a total of 4,000 euros

The German Standard Parts Award offers prizes totaling 4,000 euros for participants. Additionally, every submission that meets the participation criteria will be rewarded with a great participation gift.

All engineers, technicians, technical draftsmen, CAD users, as well as companies, departments, or teams from industries such as mechanical engineering, engineering, or electrical engineering can participate. Participants can submit both new and already realized designs free of charge.

All submissions will be evaluated by a jury based on the following criteria:

- Use of standard and purchased parts
- Innovation and utility
- Variability
- Cost considerations
- Social media interaction, e.g., by uploading to www.partcloud.net and posts in the group

The participants with the best or most innovative design will be officially awarded the German Standard Parts Award during an award ceremony at Motek 2019 in Stuttgart. Additionally, the winners will receive the following cash prizes: 1st place: 2,500 euros, 2nd place: 1,000 euros, 3rd place: 500 euros.

Standard parts improve the world – 2017 winning project supports doctors in developing countries

The winning project of the German Standard Parts Award 2017 demonstrated impressively how the use of standard parts can contribute to effective aid and support in developing countries: Prechtl Engineering's world-unique, portable surgical microscope took first place. The heartfelt project of initiator Jakob Prechtl is very cost-effective, with over 80% of the 191 components being standard parts, making it affordable for eye and ENT doctors in Africa, Asia, and Oceania to provide surgical care in remote regions of the world.
