In the field of e-mobility, a reliable and durable sealing of the battery is essential to protect the vehicle from high temperatures as well as the leakage of chemicals in the event of a battery fault. State-of-the-art technical solutions made from plastics are required here, which exhibit exceptional resistance to temperature. Pöppelmann K-TECH®, specialized in the development and series production of technical plastic solutions, now offers an efficient solution for components with very high sealing and temperature requirements through injection molding of two-component liquid silicone rubbers (Liquid Silicone Rubber LSR). The process provides a reliable, high-quality, and cost-effective solution, especially for complex and demanding applications such as battery technology. The plastics specialist showcases its capabilities in the e-mobility sector with, among other things, a cell holder for the Power Tube and an e-bike battery. These are characterized by the highest precision. Its flame-retardant material ensures safety during battery heating.

LSR: 100% sealing at maximum temperatures

The newly implemented material from Pöppelmann K-TECH® involves silicone being injected in a two-component injection molding process, initially injecting the hard component (thermoplastic), followed by the soft component LSR. The 2K-LSR technology allows different materials to be overmolded in a process-safe and fully automatic manner. Additional assembly steps are eliminated. Depending on the material pairing, a chemical adhesion between the hard and soft components can be achieved alongside the sealing function. The fully automatic, single-stage process impresses with time savings and particular cost efficiency at high production volumes.

The LSR exhibits excellent properties in compression set tests and is characterized by good weather resistance, aging resistance, UV stability, and odor neutrality. It enables secure sealing even with high tolerances.
