From development to validation
SÜDPACK Medica as a reliable partner of the healthcare industry at CPHI
At the CPHI Worldwide in Milan, SÜDPACK Medica will present itself from October 6th at booth 11K25 as a high-performance provider of packaging solutions for the global medical, pharmaceutical, and dietary supplement industries. The film manufacturer primarily focuses on new product developments that combine high quality and functionality, ensuring maximum packaging and patient safety.
One of the key strategic initiatives of the SÜDPACK Group is the development of film and packaging solutions that meet the demands of environmentally conscious companies regarding sustainability – paired with high packaging security and functionality. Over the past years, SÜDPACK has successfully established numerous packaging solutions on the market, which have been consistently developed according to Design-for-Recycling guidelines and cover a broad spectrum of applications and requirements.
Safety for today, solutions for tomorrow
The PharmaGuard® blister concept, which has already convinced major pharmaceutical manufacturers and has been awarded four industry prizes since its market launch, is just one pioneering product from SÜDPACK Medica. The PP-based blister films for packaging solid oral dosage forms are free from phthalates, vinyl, PFAS, and halogens, and are characterized by an excellent water vapor barrier, outstanding printability, and good processability on standard packaging machines. Compared to composite materials made of aluminum and PET, they have a significantly reduced climate impact according to an ISO 14040/44 verified Sphera-LCA – partly because they can be fed into existing recycling streams due to their high PP content.
In addition, SÜDPACK Medica offers a broad portfolio of integrated packaging systems for applications in the medical, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical sectors of the healthcare industry: The robust rigid and flexible films, standardized as well as customized pouch concepts, and closure systems made of plastic and medical papers can be produced under controlled cleanroom conditions as needed, providing maximum product protection, stability, and sterility throughout the entire process chain. They can be equipped with specific barrier properties and opening aids and are designed for highly automated processes.
From idea to market maturity – with SÜDPACK on the safe side
To ensure consistent system compatibility, SÜDPACK Medica collaborates with selected manufacturers of paper and lid materials as well as leading packaging machine producers. This allows targeted design, testing, and optimization of sealing performance and opening behavior for the industrial plant platforms used.
Comprehensive in-house laboratory capabilities also enable precise measurement of mechanical, thermal, and functional film properties to support customer-specific requirements and validation processes.
Additionally, SÜDPACK Medica offers the option to conduct sealing tests with MedGuard films combined with various lid materials at the Ochsenhausen technical center. These tests allow for targeted evaluation of sealing windows, peel performance, and process robustness – supporting packaging development before commercial scale-up. When necessary, SÜDPACK Medica also coordinates joint optimization tests with the customer and their machine supplier.
"All from a single source" is more than just a slogan – it is a promise and the foundation for ensuring that time- and resource-intensive processes and projects in the healthcare sector can be implemented as quickly, easily, and safely as possible for the customer.
Exciting lecture on the future topic of Sustainability
As part of the conference program in Packaging & Drug Delivery, Jürgen Bodenmüller from SÜDPACK Medica will discuss, together with a machine manufacturer and a pharmaceutical company, the central challenges associated with the adoption of new, recyclable solutions in the pharmaceutical industry, which challenge established industry paradigms. The speakers will present practical solutions and provide insights into strategies for promoting more climate-friendly pharmaceutical packaging – while ensuring efficiency and high barrier performance on an industrial scale.
The lecture "Changing Paradigms in Oral Solid Dose Packaging – Bringing Sustainability, Efficiency, and Barrier Performance to Scale" will take place on October 8, 2026, from 12:30 to 12:55 in Hall 11 (11A49). Participation is possible without prior registration.
