From Awaiba GmbH to CMOSIS Germany GmbH

CMOSIS, the leading European provider of advanced CMOS image sensors for industrial, scientific, and professional markets with headquarters in Antwerp, continues the integration of the Swiss AWAIBA group, acquired a year ago, into the global CMOSIS corporate structure. Effective July 6, 2015, the Nuremberg-based AWAIBA GmbH was renamed CMOSIS Germany GmbH. With the move to new, larger premises, office space was expanded to 800 m², and the size of the local cleanroom was doubled.

As part of CMOSIS's specific product and service program, the new CMOSIS Germany GmbH continues the product range of the former AWAIBA GmbH, offering innovative line-scan CMOS image sensors for industrial web inspection, sub-micron CMOS camera modules for endoscopy, as well as the smallest cameras for other applications. CMOSIS Germany GmbH retains the legal status of its predecessor organization, including VAT registration. All contractual agreements and business relationships are maintained.

In addition to its headquarters in Antwerp and manufacturing in Nuremberg, CMOSIS has branches in Funchal on Madeira (Portugal) and Cary, North Carolina (USA). In Antwerp, CMOSIS resides in the historic building complex of the former Belgian ATEA (Ateliers de Téléphonie et d'Électricité d'Anvers), occupying more than 1600 m² of office, laboratory, and manufacturing space, including cleanrooms, wafer testing, electro-optical sensor testing and characterization, as well as environmental and lifetime evaluation based on 8- and 12-inch wafers. An expansion of these facilities by approximately 1000 m² is planned for the end of this year.

The Nürnberg branch focuses on manufacturing and supply logistics for line-scan imagers, endoscopic image sensors, and camera modules. In Funchal, a dedicated design team is involved in the development, evaluation, and characterization of new image sensors and customer support for the mentioned product areas.

CMOSIS supplies advanced CMOS image sensors in standard and custom configurations. The product range includes high-speed area-scan imagers with global shutter and rolling shutter, with resolutions from VGA up to more than 70 megapixels. With the acquisition of AWAIBA, CMOSIS also offers line-scan imagers with up to 24K pixels and scan rates up to 80 kHz.

“The renaming of the Nuremberg-based AWAIBA GmbH to CMOSIS Germany GmbH strengthens our local customer base and presence in additional technological image sensor segments,” said Luc De Mey, CMOSIS Chairman and CEO. “We are pleased to welcome the experienced AWAIBA team with its impressive innovation capacity as an integral part of CMOSIS. This allows us, as an independent pure-play provider of CMOS image sensors, to offer an even better service.”
