Schreiner MediPharm, a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative functional labels for the healthcare industry, received the prestigious Group Award for Innovation at the FINAT Label Competition 2026 for a newly developed security seal with integrated digital authentication function. The awarded solution enables simple and reliable authenticity verification via smartphone and enhances protection for pharmaceutical products throughout the entire supply chain.

The FINAT Label Competition is one of the most important competitions in the international label industry. Once a year, the European Self-Adhesive Label Industry Association (FINAT) recognizes outstanding industry solutions. With the Group Award for Innovation, the jury honored a development by Schreiner MediPharm that intelligently combines multiple security features into a single solution: a hidden digital authentication feature, a clear initial opening indication, and a special guilloche as an additional open authenticity feature. The highly transparent and sustainable security seal was specifically developed for pharmaceutical secondary packaging and offers enhanced protection in the fight against counterfeiting, tampering attempts, and illegal exchange of pharmaceutical products.

Digital authenticity check via smartphone

The core of the solution is the integration of AlpVision's Cryptoglyph® digital authentication technology. The Swiss company is one of the leading providers of digital authentication technologies and supports brand manufacturers worldwide in protecting their products from counterfeiting. Schreiner MediPharm prints the unique, human-eye-invisible security feature with high precision into the transparent area of the seal. Authenticity can be verified at any time with a smartphone app. If the seal is manipulated and re-sealed with adhesive strips, the digital feature can no longer be read out. This allows manipulation attempts to be quickly and reliably detected.

Enhanced security along the supply chain

Pharmaceutical manufacturers benefit from the combination of ease of use and high protective effect. Stakeholders along the supply chain, such as brand inspectors, distributors, or customs authorities, can perform verifications quickly and in real time with a standard smartphone. The verification data can be monitored by the brand owner and used for fraud detection, geotracking, or market analysis. At the same time, security features integrated into the seal, such as specially coordinated adhesives, complex guilloche patterns, and the unique wave shape of the seal, provide additional protection against manipulation. The solution meets the requirements of the EU Falsification Prevention Directive and DIN EN 16679:2014 for tamper-evident packaging.
