HS Air Filter Manufacturing from Kiel produces high-quality HEPA and ULPA filters based on modern ePTFE membranes. In particular, the product range HS-Micro SF-AL PTFE is equipped with these media. This allows the pressure difference of the filters to be reduced by up to 50 percent compared to conventional fiberglass filters. Another advantage of these filters is their high mechanical durability, which is at least 8 times higher than that of products with glass media. Thus, damages that can occur easily during the installation of fiberglass-based filters are almost eliminated. High humidity, such as that which can occur in exhaust air processes, does not impair the integrity of ePTFE-based filters. HS-Micro SF-AL ePTFE filters emit no boron and are therefore ideally suited for use in microelectronics. Particles from process gases, which may contain hydrofluoric acid or chlorine, can also be safely filtered with the ePTFE filters from HS Air Filter Manufacturing GmbH.

Reliable Products

The reliable manufacturing process of HS Air Filter Manufacturing enables the production of all filter classes up to U17 according to EN 1822. Only a handful of manufacturers worldwide are capable of this. In addition to the manufacturing process, the filter testing using Scantest must also be adapted to the filter medium. ePTFE membranes are sensitive to oil-based test aerosols (DEHS, DOP, PAO), which are commonly used for these tests. After just a few test cycles, the pressure difference of the filter increases significantly depending on the filter class and inlet aerosol concentration when using oil-based test aerosols. To prevent this, HS Air Filter Manufacturing tests with PSL, a solid aerosol based on monodisperse latex spheres. The filters tested with PSL also eliminate the risk of possible outgassing during subsequent operation, as can occur after a leak test with DEHS. Thus, the filters can be used completely safely in the semiconductor industry.

The aerosol homogenization process is comparatively complex. HS Air Filter Manufacturing GmbH has a modern testing center for filter tests according to EN1822 and is capable of testing ePTFE filters with PSL aerosol. The high standards HS Air Filter Manufacturing sets for its own tests are also recommended to customers. "Anyone who wants to use ePTFE filters and tests them beforehand with the wrong testing methods risks permanently contaminating the filters. We recommend using PSL particles with a particle spectrum between 0.1 – 0.2 µm for testing," emphasizes Managing Director Malte Schuldt.

To ensure a long service life of the ePTFE filters, the filter specialist from Kiel recommends reliable pre-filtration, as these membrane filters have a more sensitive dust storage mechanism compared to traditional fiberglass filters. With the right combination of pre- and main filtration, the energy consumption of cleanrooms can be significantly reduced.
