Expansion of the SÜDPACK site in Coulmer completed
July 17, 2026 marks an important milestone in the history of SÜDPACK Medica: In the presence of numerous local dignitaries, project participants, neighbors, employees, management, owners, and the press, the significantly expanded plant of the film and packaging manufacturer in Coulmer, France, was ceremoniously inaugurated on this day.
With the groundbreaking on September 19, 2023, the company's largest individual project to date was launched. Now, about three years later, the expanded capacities for the production of high-quality primary packaging for pharmaceuticals and sterile barrier systems for medical technology and diagnostics applications can be utilized at the ISO 13485 (Medical + Diagnostics) and 15378 (Primary Packaging – GMP) certified site. As part of the plant expansion, the cleanroom production area was practically doubled under ISO 7/8 conditions. The production focus is on the MedGuard product line, which includes, in particular, pouch systems and other packaging concepts for, e.g., implants, surgical sets, wound care products, and surgical textiles. Additionally, header bags specifically designed for large-volume medical technology products are produced, which are typically sterilized using ETO.
The plant expansion is a clear commitment to the Orne region – and to Europe. It is also the logical consequence of the steadily increasing demand from the medical, pharmaceutical, and sterile goods industries for film and packaging concepts that meet the highest standards of quality, control, safety, particle-free conditions, sterility, and regulatory reliability. At the same time, it is an essential building block for the future. In Coulmer, significant work is also being done on future-proof, PPWR-compliant solutions such as recyclable mono-PE concepts for the life sciences sector, which are intended to replace traditional PA/PE composites. For SÜDPACK, however, the plant expansion is primarily a promise of quality to its customers: With the expansion, processes from film to finished pouch can now be carried out in larger volumes under cleanroom conditions, ensuring a high level of quality, delivery security, and reliability.
At the official inauguration, the SÜDPACK leadership team – Johannes Remmele and Carolin Grimbacher as owners, Thorsten Seehars as CEO, Christoph Angstl as COO, and site manager Samuel Wilquin – as well as the SÜDPACK advisory board member Karl-Josef Keller and board member Reto Garzetti, employees, project participants, local press representatives, and also high-ranking personalities from politics and administration, including the representative of the Orne electoral district, Mr. Liger, Mayor Salmon of Gacé, Deputy Mayor Roumier of Coulmer, and Madame Jockel from the Communauté de communes des Vallées d'Auge et du Merlerault (CDC VAM), welcomed all present.
