Excellent Design: Red Dot Award for innovative energy chain solutions from igus

Two times this year, igus can receive the Red Dot Award for innovative product design. The igus CRM, a rotary module for applications in the tightest spaces, and the e-chain TH3, the world's first plastic e-chain designed according to Hygienic Design guidelines, were awarded the coveted prize for design quality and innovation by an international jury.

In product development, the motion plastics specialist igus relies not only on continuous improvements in material properties but also on user-friendly and advanced design that enhances technology and reduces costs. An example of this are the igus CRM and the Hygienic Design e-chain TH3, which, among a record number of more than 5,500 submissions—from automobiles to toothbrushes—were awarded the Red Dot Award. This year, manufacturers and designers from a total of 54 nations submitted their product innovations, which were evaluated by a 39-member jury. The award is one of the most recognized design competitions worldwide and has been awarded since 1955.

Compact rotary module from igus for rotations in the tightest spaces

The CRM (compact rotation module) from igus is an extremely compact rotary module for applications requiring circular movements up to 360 degrees in the tightest spaces. As with all energy chains for circular movements from igus, energy, data, and media can also be guided in parallel, interference-free, and flexibly with the CRM, thus increasing system safety and avoiding unplanned downtimes. The module is delivered ready for installation and impresses with simple installation. The current rotation angle can be read on a scale.

Plastic energy chain according to "Hygienic Design guidelines"

The e-chain TH3 is the world's first plastic e-chain developed according to "Hygienic Design guidelines." Its open design makes the chain very easy to clean, and rounded corners along with a screwless construction prevent dead spaces and resulting germ formation. The blue material typical for plastic components in the food industry also has good resistance to aggressive cleaning agents and chemicals. Therefore, this e-chain is suitable for applications where the highest hygiene standards apply and where lines and hoses must be securely guided.
