Without a precise inspection of pressures, process safety cannot be guaranteed. This is especially true in highly automated industries such as automotive, packaging, or food industries, as well as in the life sciences sector. High pressures, as encountered in hydraulic applications, also pose a particular challenge. To also master these, SMC has developed the new digital pressure switch series ISE78G/79S, suitable for pressure measurements of 16 MPa (ISE78G) or up to a maximum of 50 MPa (ISE79S) with liquid media. Additionally, the solution impresses with fast switching times, IO-Link compatibility, provides comprehensive information at a glance thanks to a 3-part display, is compact and lightweight in design, and reduces energy consumption through low power draw and an additional energy-saving function.

Whether for pressing or in injection molding, tooling, and special machines: precise pressure measurements are indispensable for reliable automated applications, especially in stationary hydraulics where high pressures are used. To provide designers with an optimal solution for a variety of applications, SMC has expanded the digital pressure switches of series ISE7# with the ISE78G/79S series. The automation specialist offers an IO-Link-compatible solution that is energy-efficient, compact, lightweight, capable of measuring up to 50 MPa, and equipped with a comprehensive and clear display.

Energy-saving overview of numerous measurement values

The new series ISE78G/79S is another step toward sustainable production. The power consumption is 35 mA or less and can be further reduced with an existing energy-saving function. Additionally, the pressure switches, with dimensions of 34 x 80.4 mm and a maximum weight of 181 g for ISE78G or 141 g for ISE79S (both with G1/4 connection), are ideal for designing compact and lightweight machines – another advantage for reducing costs and conserving resources.

While the space-saving design is suitable for particularly hard-to-reach applications, the unit's swivel mechanism by 336° and the angled display allow for good visibility of the displayed measurement values. Besides the general measurement value on the main screen, two of the following parameters can be optionally displayed on the sub-screen: setpoint (limit value), hysteresis value, delay time, and maximum and minimum values. This allows users to view three different parameters simultaneously. The built-in persistent maximum/minimum value memory also ensures that even if the power supply is interrupted, the maximum and minimum values are stored and can be displayed together with the current value – a plus point for process safety.

Performance champion for diverse applications

The series ISE78G/79S, suitable for media such as hydraulic oil, water, cooling and lubricating agents, emulsions, and alcohol, are designed for a maximum measurement range of 16 MPa (ISE78G) and up to 50 MPa (ISE79S). They thus cover a broad range of hydraulic applications in high-pressure areas. They are also easy to distinguish from the blue-marked series ISE70/71 for compressed air measurements thanks to their gray marking, reducing the risk of confusion.

Thanks to switching times of only 2 ms or less (with anti-chatter function from 0 to 60 s), faster process cycles and shorter cycle times are possible, enabling higher output quantities. Additionally, the series ISE78G/79S are suitable for challenging environmental conditions thanks to their IP67 protection rating, further expanding their application portfolio. In terms of connection and communication capabilities, the digital pressure switches also impress: they are consistently equipped with IO-Link for connection to higher-level fieldbus systems or PLCs, enabling not only display of operational and device status but also remote monitoring and control – ideal for Industry 4.0 applications. Alternatively, they can also be connected via an NPN/PNP switching output with M12 connector.
