EU project "MetAMC" and international cleanroom association ICCCS for the first time at Cleanzone

Cleanzone establishes itself as a platform for international exchange within the cleanroom community

The Cleanzone continues to expand its international presence. For the first time, the international contamination control association ICCCS (International Confederation of Contamination Control Societies) is presenting itself at the trade fair and congress for cleanroom technology on October 27 and 28, 2015, in Frankfurt am Main. Additionally, various national research institutes will present results from the European project "MetAMC Metrology for Airborne Molecular Contamination in Manufacturing Environments," which deals with measurement methods for chemical contaminants in microproduction. Ruth Lorenz, Head of Technology & Production at Messe Frankfurt, is pleased with the interest from abroad: "The high international interest in Cleanzone shows us how important a platform is that brings together global players in cleanroom technology."

Minute chemical contaminants such as ammonia, acids, or organic compounds can lead to production failures in semiconductor manufacturing, nanotechnology, and the production of photovoltaic cells, LEDs, and OLEDs. To develop new laser-based measurement methods and better understand the formation of chemical particles, the three-year EU project "MetAMC" was founded in 2013. The participating institutes will present the latest results ahead of Cleanzone on Monday, October 26, 2015, in a workshop. The broad trade fair audience can learn about the current developments in research at the project's booth during Cleanzone. Tuomas Hieta, scientist at the Finnish national institute for metrology, Mikes, explains: "Cleanzone is an excellent choice for our EU project 'MetAMC' as an important event for cleanroom technology in Europe to present our findings on new contamination issues in the cleanroom. As representatives of a scientific community, it is important for our project consortium to meet with cleanroom operators and experts to find out what services and instruments will truly be needed in the future."

For Koos Agricola, Secretary General of ICCCS, Cleanzone is also the right place to present the work of the association to an international audience. "We want to use this opportunity to inform international visitors about the new direction ICCCS is taking. In Frankfurt, we can encourage visitors from countries that are not yet members to establish their own national associations." ICCCS plans to support its member associations even more intensively to promote the international transfer of knowledge in cleanroom technology. For example, the association wants to offer its members standard courses that they can hold in their own countries.

Approximately 80 exhibitors are expected at Cleanzone 2015. About one-third of the exhibitors come from abroad. Among them are manufacturers from Finland, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. The product range of the trade fair includes construction and planning, climate and ventilation technology, consumables and clothing, monitoring and quality control, as well as training and further education.
