Energy and data combined in new igus hybrid cable for SEW motors

Small, compact, and fast: These are the demands on the new generations of motors. In addition, more and more drive manufacturers are relying on hybrid technology to save space. Therefore, igus has now expanded its range of hybrid cables with a new cable specifically for motors from SEW with the MOVILINK DDI interface. For example, users in material handling can access a durable cable that has been specially developed for use in e-chains.

Hybrid cables for drive technology are characterized by combining power and data transmission in a single cable. The result: the number of cables needed is halved. In the case of the new SEW motors with MOVILINK DDI interface, the drive manufacturer relies on a coaxial element for data transmission of motor information. To reliably supply energy and data to the compact motors during movement, igus has now developed a new hybrid cable. "The challenge with cables containing coaxial elements is that they become susceptible to interference at high dynamics. Therefore, we set ourselves the task of developing a durable and flexible cable that also functions reliably during movement," says Andreas Muckes, Head of Product Management chainflex Cables at igus GmbH. The motion cable specialist can draw on over 20 years of expertise in the field of coaxial cables for highly dynamic applications. For the new hybrid cable CF280.UL.H207.D, four power cores have now been combined with a coaxial conductor and two control pairs. By combining two cables into one, users can save 40 percent of space in the energy chain. At the same time, the weight that the system needs to drive is reduced, which consumes less energy. The new cable with PUR outer jacket is suitable for applications with a bending factor of up to 15 x d and is therefore suitable for a variety of industries – from machine tools, through material handling, to the automotive industry.

28 cables for hybrid technology

With 28 different types of cables for motors from Siemens, Beckhoff, SEW, or Bosch Rexroth, igus has the largest portfolio of hybrid cables for energy chains from stock. With the expansion of the CF280 series, igus continues to follow the ongoing trend of hybrid technology. The cable specialist also offers its CF280 series with a PVC outer jacket as CF220. This allows additional cost savings in the hybrid cable segment. chainflex cables can be supplied pre-terminated or by the meter. Like all its cables, igus also offers up to 36 months warranty on the new SEW hybrid cable.
