Economic Medal of the State of Baden-Württemberg for SÜDPACK

During a ceremony at the New Palace in Stuttgart, Carolin Grimbacher and Johannes Remmele from SÜDPACK received the Economic Medal of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The siblings, as second-generation owners, are responsible for the fortunes of the Ochsenhausen family business, which celebrated its 60th anniversary this year and is among the leading manufacturers of packaging films.

Since 1987, the medal has recognized companies, personalities, and organizations that have made a special contribution to the economy of Baden-Württemberg—and that secure the future viability of the location through their investments and engagement. On November 28, 2024, the award was presented by Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut to a total of seven individuals and six companies. The Minister for Economics, Labour, and Tourism emphasized in her laudation that the honorees "all stand in their own way for the success model of the Social Market Economy, which in these turbulent times we should particularly reaffirm. This economic style must be lived— and it needs personalities who embody it."

Johannes Remmele was especially pleased that the economic medal was explicitly awarded to a plastics processor: "Per se, plastics and packaging are often subject to public criticism. That’s why we are particularly proud that the necessity of packaging is also recognized in politics, and that it has been understood that with packaging, we actually emphasize the added value of the contents quite clearly."

With SÜDPACK, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut particularly praised "a technology- and innovation-driven company that thinks and acts long-term, prioritizes sustainability, has remained true to its Upper Swabian roots to this day, and at the same time records successes on the international stage."

By developing particularly material-efficient and recyclable products, as well as making significant investments in resource management and recycling, the technology and innovation leader actively promotes the circular economy in the plastics and packaging industry. That only works with a targeted corporate strategy and a consistent focus on customer and market requirements. With the awarding of the economic medal, Baden-Württemberg recognizes the previous achievements of the honored companies and personalities—and at the same time sets guidelines for the economy in the region. The ceremony, which was also attended by Biberach CDU Member of Parliament Josef Rief to personally congratulate SÜDPACK on site, is the highlight of the event.
