Cleanroom spaces impose special requirements on air handling systems. The filter fan units (FFUs) designed for ceiling installation combine fans with filtration technology. Especially when a very high number of FFUs are used, simple and quick commissioning is mandatory. EC radial fans with auto-addressing from ebm-papst make this possible.

The operation of cleanrooms with FFUs is the most economical way to supply clean air. At the core of these units are as flat and ready-to-connect fan modules as possible, which require little installation space and operate energy efficiently.

MODBUS-RTU with Auto-Addressing

The initial commissioning of a cleanroom system is often associated with significant time and cost. ebm-papst now offers its specially designed EC radial fans for installation in FFUs with a digital MODBUS-RTU interface, also with auto-addressing, which significantly reduces commissioning costs. Previously, devices had to be individually assigned a unique address for network operation. This time-consuming process is now automated through the so-called DCI-Addressing (Daisy-Chain-Interface). When the cable routing is known, the position of the fan unit in the cleanroom ceiling can be determined according to the sequence of addresses specified in the cable plan. Manual assignment is unnecessary. The master control handles the complete addressing and localization of the installed fans. Time and costs for commissioning are significantly reduced.

Wide Voltage Input with Active PFC

Additionally, the fans feature a wide voltage input, allowing them to be used worldwide with various network voltages and frequencies. The standard Active PFC (Power Factor Correction) prevents the permissible upper wave limit values from being exceeded when operating many FFUs in parallel, which would otherwise burden the power supply network. All components of the power distribution can therefore be designed smaller and more cost-effective.

Energy-efficient and Quiet

FFU manufacturers must guarantee overall efficiencies of at least 50% at the design point in cleanroom technology. The aerodynamically optimized RadiCal fans with EC motors are not only particularly energy-efficient but also contribute to a significant noise reduction of up to 7 dB(A) compared to conventional market standards. These quiet and energy-saving fans are available in diameters of 250, 310, 355, and 400 mm and cover air volumes of 580, 1170, 1750, and 2330 m³/h, with up to 300 Pa back pressure.
