E+E Elektronik wins large order for humidity measurement devices
German Weather Service relies on sensor technology from Austria
The Austrian sensor specialist E+E Elektronik wins the tender from the German Weather Service (DWD) for equipping its weather stations with new humidity/temperature transmitters.
As the national meteorological service of the Federal Republic of Germany, the DWD is the highest authority for meteorology, weather, and climate in the country, operating nearly 2,000 weather observation stations and weather stations across Germany. By 2015, all existing humidity measurement devices are to be gradually replaced throughout the measurement network. The high-end measuring devices provide precise results for accurate weather and climate forecasts.
The series EE33 (Type J) humidity/temperature transmitters are used. The devices are characterized by highly accurate and reliable measurements even under the most challenging environmental conditions. The core of this transmitter is the monolithic sensing element HMC01, developed by E+E using thin-film technology. Thanks to the unique E+E sensor coating, the sensing element is optimally protected against condensation or chemical contamination. An argument that also convinced the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) when purchasing these measuring devices.
Until now, humidity and temperature were measured with separate devices. With the new humidity/temperature transmitters from this company, these two measurements can now be taken with a single device. Another advantage: the transmission of measurement results will be digital instead of analog in the future.
All devices are manufactured at the Austrian company’s location in Engerwitzdorf. Delivery of the first hundred transmitters is scheduled for August 2013.
E+E Elektronik operates its own state-accredited calibration laboratory and maintains the national standards for relative humidity and air velocity on behalf of the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) in Austria.
