The perfect flow measurement for cleanrooms and similarly demanding processes

The high requirements of modern control technology in ventilation systems demand precise measurement of volumetric flows in air or gases. For this, flow sensors must be able to accurately and quickly detect an extremely wide measurement range from nearly zero up to the maximum value. The new flow sensors SS 20.250 from SCHMIDT Technology are specifically designed for this purpose.

In areas where safety requirements for people or products or hygienic air conditions are present, an exact measurement of the volumetric flows of air or gases and, not least, their documentation are necessary. These requirements cannot be met with simple pressure switches in ventilation systems.

A perfect method for measuring volumetric flows is provided by thermal flow sensors. They allow direct detection of air or gas flows. The particular advantage of this technology is the wide measurement range, which covers the relevant air or gas flows in climate technology for cleanrooms or production processes with comparable requirements. It includes the smallest air velocities, such as during idle times, up to maximum flows under full load. A distinctive feature of so-called thermal anemometry is the simple and accurate measurement, as well as the straightforward evaluation of the recorded data.

Specifically designed for demanding applications

The thermal flow measurement also forms the basis of the newly developed flow sensors SS 20.250 from SCHMIDT Technology. Their complete electronics are housed in a robust metal sensor tube. A diameter of only nine millimeters makes them among the smallest all-rounders of their kind. They present minimal resistance in the airflow and are easy to install with little space required. For this purpose, accessories include flanges, welding sleeves, or through-holes, and especially interesting for cleanroom applications, a wall mounting flange made of stainless steel. For installation in different pipe diameters, sensor lengths of 300 and 500 millimeters are available. The patented handle head with a large flow angle of radial 360° and axial ±45° can be safely and quickly positioned in the gas stream, eliminating the need for precise alignment in the flow. Additionally, the undercut-free and completely seamless design prevents dirt particles from adhering and allows easy cleaning. For specific requirements, the sensors are offered with a chemically resistant protective coating, protecting them against aggressive media such as hydrochloric acid, acetone, or sulfuric acid, as well as reagents in disinfectants.

The measurement of standard flow velocity is performed within a range of 0.06 to 20 m/s. The measurement accuracy of the SS 20.250 is ±5%. With high-precision calibration and ISO calibration certificate, an accuracy of ±3% is guaranteed. In addition to flow velocity, the medium temperature is also quickly measured.

As with its performance features and design, SCHMIDT Technology has also tailored the price of the SS 20.250 to the application area. With a list price of €340, the sensors represent an adequate solution for applications such as continuous monitoring of filter units, controlling volumetric flow in extraction systems, or monitoring laminar flows in cleanrooms.
