Crailsheimer Pharmatag 2013
International Symposium for Sterile Filling by Bosch
> Independent platform for knowledge and experience exchange
> Keynote Speaker: Prof. Dr. Dr. Franz-Josef Radermacher
> Exhibition of product innovations in the pharmaceutical sector
On May 14 and 15, 2013, Bosch Packaging Technology hosted the 7th Crailsheim Pharma Day. The international symposium for sterile filling offered pharmaceutical experts and opinion leaders an independent platform for interdisciplinary knowledge and experience exchange. "We spent two interesting and successful days with guests from around the world. With its diverse program and exciting topics, the Crailsheim Pharma Day was once again the ideal event to meet with colleagues and discuss current trends," said Joachim Brenner, site manager in Crailsheim. On the first day, the approximately 250 invited guests had the opportunity to take a factory tour and get a behind-the-scenes look, as well as celebrate the inauguration of the new assembly hall. During the evening event, participants rounded off the day together.
Practical reports and expert discussions
The second day traditionally featured presentations and a panel discussion. Prof. Dr. Dr. Franz Josef Radermacher was the keynote speaker. The head of the Applied Knowledge Processing Research Institute in Ulm opened the second day with a lecture on current and future trends in the pharmaceutical industry. Subsequently, the professional audience received further information in additional presentations, for example, on the role of research and development in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and on new challenges in aseptic filling. Speakers included representatives from Boehringer Ingelheim, Ypsomed, AbbVie, Lilly, Sartorius Stedim Biotech, and the Fraunhofer Institute in Braunschweig.
Panel discussion and product highlights
Friedbert Klefenz, Chairman of the Bosch Packaging Technology division board, and Joachim Brenner, site manager in Crailsheim, discussed current production trends such as contract manufacturing, small batch sizes, 100 percent in-process control, and lean production with the participants. The program was hosted by Dr. Charlotte Enghave Fruergaard from NNE Pharmaplan. Another highlight of the event was the presentation of new products from Bosch. The Pharma Day provided visitors with insights into the entire product portfolio for process and packaging technology for liquid and solid dosage forms.
Among the exhibits, special mention should be made of the new filling and capping machine MLF 5088, which enables an output of up to 400 vials per minute with integrated 100 percent in-process control (IPC). The machine, equipped with an eight-digit combination filling system, is suitable for both Restricted Access Barrier Systems (RABS) and isolators and containment systems for the processing of toxic products.
System expertise for solid and liquid pharmaceuticals
With the integration of Eisai Machinery, Bosch has significantly expanded its inspection portfolio. The semi-automatic VIS 200 is used for inspecting empty and filled vials ranging from two to 200 milliliters. It checks containers for foreign particles in liquids and lyophilized pharmaceuticals, as well as cosmetic defects such as cracks in glass or missing closures. Additionally, Bosch has developed a new inspection unit based on X-ray technology, the KKX 3900, for capsules.
Furthermore, Bosch showcased the Fast Air Lock ISS 1000 for rapid and contamination-free transfer of pharmaceutical accessories in and out of isolators, as well as the standardized CIP/SIP compact system (Cleaning and Sterilization in Place) for pharmaceutical containers and vessels, along with various small equipment from production. The laboratory system Solidlab 2 combines three process modules in one machine: powder mixing, granulating, and coating of pellets and tablets. The exhibition was complemented by a comprehensive service offering, including the new mobile conference system Mavus and a mobile breathing detection system for evaluating overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
