Concrete Protection Expert Dr. Jörg Rathenow, founder of SINNOTEC Innovation Consulting GmbH (www.sinnotec.eu), sees the future in mineral-based building protection products. From early 2020 to the end of 2021, the certified expert in concrete restoration and rehabilitation supervised the market performance of the processing company Epowit Bautechnik GmbH (www.epowit.com), specialized in protective and decorative coatings, in Eichenzell/Osthessen. He brings a broad range of experience in the application of OS systems on large surfaces back to Wiesbaden. According to his own statements, the passionate building protector intends to deploy the proven Epowit processing teams on Sinnotec construction sites as well.

Mineral is Trendy

For the protection and refinement of concrete components and larger continuous concrete surfaces such as those in parking garages and underground garages, Sinnotec considers silicate-based products and systems to be ideal. Rigid OS-8 coatings on mineral basis, such as those required for weather-exposed decks in parking garages, industrial production and storage halls, or swimming pools, are considered to be hardly surpassable in terms of robustness and durability, according to Sinnotec in Wiesbaden.

Despite Material Shortages

The increasing popularity of mineral formulations is reinforced by the prevailing material shortages in construction. While, for example, raw materials for polymer coatings as well as for epoxy resins or polyurethane coatings are currently only available in limited quantities—and when they are, often with high price surcharges that are rarely fully passed on to clients—there are no foreseeable shortages causing price increases for fillers and binders used in the production of mineral building protection products.
