Protina Pharmazeutische GmbH has set signs for the future: On the company's premises, a new building has been constructed next to the 1980s building, providing ample space for continuous growth. The new filling and packaging areas are securely enclosed with cleanroom doors from EFAFLEX. Over the past twelve years, the specialist for high-speed industrial doors has installed 35 EFA-SRT® CR cleanroom doors and five other door types in both the new construction and the existing building at Protina.

"The new building was a mammoth task," explains Stefan Gutberlett, Head of Production and Project Manager for the new and existing renovations at Protina. "But believe me: renovations within existing structures are the real challenge!" The various areas in the plant are so different that the requirements for installation and function of the doors also vary. Regarding an escape route, he explains that a door had to be found whose height could be adapted to the room situation because the opening was relatively limited. Additionally, it didn't have to be airtight but should be easy to clean. "Since a cleanroom door with a normally closed curtain box was not suitable for the escape route, EFAFLEX found a very good special solution with a special cladding!"

The door specialist is a good partner, explains Stefan Gutberlett during a tour of the facility. "When it came to completing an important construction phase on time, EFAFLEX managed to replace the soft-touch doors with the EFA-SRT-CR-P doors within five weeks for us."

He stops in front of a door tunnel. The cleanroom door on the opposite side opens, and a vehicle enters the tunnel. After the door closes again, it takes a while until the second door in the direction of travel opens and the vehicle can leave the tunnel. "We work with pressure cascades," explains the production manager. "Therefore, the doors are equipped with an interlock system. Only when the appropriate air pressure has been restored in the tunnel does the second door open, ensuring continuous overpressure in the black zone and keeping the pure areas under positive pressure." He also points out a special feature: the vehicle in the tunnel is an autonomous transport unit that communicates with the door control.

Another door feels warm. It separates the dry cabinet from the rest of the container drying room. "Here, all the format parts and operating materials to be cleaned are dried after wet cleaning at 40 degrees Celsius. The plastic curtain of the door can withstand these relatively high temperatures 24 hours a day."

Technical Information EFA-SRT® CR

Cleanroom doors of the CR series from EFAFLEX have received certification from TÜV Süd for the suitability of the equipment for cleanrooms of ISO Class 5 (254 EFA-SRT® CR Premium) and ISO Class 6 (678 EFA-SRT® CR Efficient and 675 EFA-STT® CR) regarding airborne particle cleanliness. They are perfectly adapted to the requirements in controlled manufacturing zones and ensure the tightness of access points. The high-performance high-speed doors have a smooth surface structure and no protruding edges. They are therefore easy to clean, and particle settling is largely prevented. The GMP-compliant door types of the CR series are mostly made of V2A stainless steel.
