Cleanroom production tripled

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has tripled its cleanroom production. The specialist for sealing solutions made from liquid silicone rubber (LSR) is responding to increased demand for ongoing products as well as rising needs for new products in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. The company is a development partner and manufactures series products for numerous pharmaceutical and medical technology companies.

"We can produce products in our cleanrooms within a closed system," says Jarno Burkhardt, Managing Director of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions. With an investment of more than ten million Swiss francs, the company has tripled the capacity of its cleanroom manufacturing and increased the overall production capacity at the site by over 30 percent. The expansion was necessary because customers announced an increasing demand. For example, an asthma spray from Boehringer Ingelheim, for whose inhaler Trelleborg Sealing Solutions manufactures the complete sealing package, has now received FDA approval for the USA and is launching there. Similarly, serial production has now begun for a diabetes medication, which will be marketed as an insulin delivery device.

Cleanroom capacity tripled

A new three-story complex with production and office spaces has been built on the company grounds in Stein am Rhein. The core of the expansion includes cleanrooms of ISO class 7 (10,000 particles <0.1 µm) and ISO class 8 (100,000 particles <0.1 µm) according to ISO 14644-1. Gradually, the rooms are being equipped with state-of-the-art machines on which components made from liquid silicone rubber are validated with the highest precision in automated processes.

"With the expansion of injection molding in the cleanroom according to the latest standards of building and cleanroom technology, processes will become even more efficient and products will be available to our customers even faster," Burkhardt assures.
