Cleanroom floors for pharmaceutical production

To meet the strict requirements for companies in the pharmaceutical and food industries, large parts of the new production facilities of the dietary supplement manufacturer Orthomol have been constructed to cleanroom standards. For the flooring, the responsible parties chose the StoFloor Cleanroom BB OS system (StoCretec, Kriftel), which is designed to withstand the high mechanical stresses in industrial operations.

For the expansion of the manufacturing facilities of the dietary supplement producer Orthomol, new production halls covering an area of 7,000 square meters were built in Langenfeld. Durable floor coatings were crucial for this, which also meet all relevant requirements for cleanrooms—as mandated in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Therefore, the client and planners opted for the proven, cleanroom-tested coating system StoFloor Cleanroom BB OS for this construction project. It meets all requirements for pharmaceutical production and has certification for suitability in cleanroom class 4 according to DIN EN ISO 14644-1, as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation (IPA) Stuttgart's cleanroom CSM qualification. Additionally, the flooring system is FDA tested according to 21 CFR §175.300.

StoFloor Cleanroom BB OS also impresses with high mechanical and chemical resistance as well as low outgassing behavior. Its good abrasion resistance and minimal particle generation are confirmed by an external institute's certification (Fraunhofer IPA Certificate). The floor can be traversed with vulcanized rubber and polyamide wheels.

The matte sealant StoPox WL 150, transparent, completes the industrial flooring system. The surface is highly resistant, smooth, and easy to clean. It can be temporarily exposed to water at eighty degrees Celsius. The two-component, water-based epoxy resin is low-emission and free of organic solvents and plasticizers.

At Orthomol, StoFloor Cleanroom BB OS was used on approximately 3,000 square meters of flooring. It contributes to the production of high-quality dietary supplements and helps to prevent waste and quality losses.
