On March 31, 2014, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the construction of a state-of-the-art production and development center of Finetech GmbH & Co. KG, based in Berlin. The company is investing eight million euros in the site, creating the conditions for further growth. Finetech has commissioned Vollack, the specialist for methodical building conception, to develop, plan, and realize the new building.

The company Finetech, founded in 1992 in Berlin-Friedrichshain, is a leading manufacturer of repair stations for professional SMD component repair as well as highly precise assembly systems for semiconductor chips used in research and development, prototype construction, and production. Currently, nearly 100 employees in Berlin and Dresden work on the manufacture of the manual and automated FINEPLACER® systems. Thanks to their modularity, the products stand for quality and durability as well as future security, as they can be adapted to new technological developments over the years with minimal effort. To respond quickly to customer needs, Finetech is represented in key global markets with its own sales and service branches. However, the entire value chain—from development through manufacturing to sales—is carried out in Germany.

New building enables efficient processes

The manufacturing and development of the FINEPLACER® systems currently take place at the econopark site in Berlin-Marzahn. All areas of the company have grown significantly in recent years and are now housed in two separate buildings across three floors. "This not only involves long distances but also a high time investment for communication and coordination," says Gunter Kürbis, managing director of Finetech. A new building on the 1.8-hectare site in Berlin-Marzahn-Hellersdorf will give Finetech the opportunity to redesign processes and workflows according to current and future requirements.

The new building will consist of a two-story production and office building with 1,780 square meters of usable space, as well as a separate steel-constructed production hall with 3,200 square meters of usable space. Additionally, a spacious cafeteria and surrounding green and outdoor areas invite employees to relax and engage in sports. For the development and production of highly sensitive products, cleanrooms of ISO classes 9-6 are planned within the two-story production and office building, providing an almost dust-free environment. Another special feature is the energy concept: through the combination of a modern ventilation system and a gravel storage, it is possible to use the warm exhaust air from the production process together with the cool outdoor air for building acclimatization.

Official groundbreaking ceremony

At the official start of the construction project today, the Finetech shareholders, together with managing director Gunter Kürbis, district councilor for economy and urban development Christian Gräff, and Bernd Haase, partner and managing director of Vollack Berlin, symbolically embedded a time capsule into the foundation stone. According to tradition, it contains construction plans, company brochures, current newspapers, some coins, and a 3D sculpture of a FINEPLACER® assembly system. "I am pleased to be here today to give the starting signal," says Gunter Kürbis. "I am convinced that with the new manufacturing and development center, we are well prepared for future challenges."

The concept, planning, and implementation of the Finetech manufacturing and development center are in the hands of Vollack, the specialist for methodical building conception. "The strategic approach convinced us," says Gunter Kürbis. "Vollack first mapped out all processes and workflows with us and tailored the planning accordingly." The completion of the building is scheduled for December 2014.
