Cadolto realizes modular operating room buildings

After the modules for the new construction in Viersen were assembled in summer 2022, it was handed over to the client in a turnkey condition on December 12, 2022.

The new building, measuring 804 m², consists of two operating rooms equipped with the latest technical standards. It was directly connected to the existing hospital building and spans two floors: In the basement, the ventilation and building technology systems, as well as four offices and two meeting rooms, were integrated. On the ground floor, there are two operating rooms with entry areas, as well as rooms serving as patient waiting zones, and for supply and disposal, the central area, and the administrative office. The new surgical department thus ensures the treatment of patients with the most modern methods of orthopedic surgery in the future.

Dr. Jochen Neßler, Medical Director and Chief Physician of the LVR Clinic for Orthopedics Viersen: “With the two new operating rooms, which are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, we will not only meet the demands of an orthopedic competence center but also the steadily increasing demand from our patients. The expansion of our capacities was an important and correct step. A further necessity for this expansion arises from the fact that we were able to recruit a highly skilled neurosurgeon, Dr. Tanyo Hristov, a few years ago. Highly specialized surgeries are performed here, which naturally also require their own capacities.”

The LVR Clinic for Orthopedics Viersen has been located in Viersen-Süchteln for over 100 years and now treats approximately 3,500 patients annually from the Rhineland with the most modern methods of orthopedic surgery. With the new operating rooms, the clinic continues to demonstrate its future viability. All patients should receive prompt treatment, and therefore, the capacities were expanded due to the particularly high patient volume. Additionally, cutting-edge surgical technology such as advanced robotics is also used.

Furthermore, we can look back on a successful collaboration of all project participants during the project.”

The 13 modules for the new building were produced in Cadolto’s manufacturing halls with maximum prefabrication and subsequently transported by truck to the construction site in Viersen. To maintain the surrounding hospital areas during construction, the decision was made to use modular construction. Due to the high level of prefabrication in modular construction, many tasks, such as the installation of technical equipment, were already carried out in the halls. This significantly reduced construction noise on-site.
