Bolder Pharmaceuticals – More Cleanroom for Growth

The production of pharmaceuticals places particularly high demands, including on the building and equipment. That is why the pharmaceutical company Bolder Arzneimittel relied on an experienced partner as general planner when constructing the new, larger company headquarters in Cologne: The architects and engineers from Carpus+Partner in Aachen realized a tailored production hall with an attached administrative building in attractive, open industrial architecture by December 2011.

The interdisciplinary team initially analyzed and optimized the process workflows within the company during the planning phase. Based on this, the new buildings were implemented according to the latest standards. The entire technical building equipment (TGA) was also planned by the engineers from Carpus+Partner.

More than 7,000 m² for production, administration, and communication

The two-story production building now houses over 6,000 m² of cleanrooms as well as laboratories for development and manufacturing, along with storage areas for incoming and outgoing goods, airlocks, and changing rooms. For the globally operating pharmaceutical company, it was particularly important that all facilities meet both American and European Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

The 1,000 m² administrative block offers combined and individual offices with a modern, flexible knowledge architecture. This enables a modular organization of workflows and creates space for cross-departmental communication. The cafeteria for approximately 50 employees is also located here.
An innovative energy concept centered around a combined heat and power plant, which provides building and process heat as well as electricity, ensures excellent energy efficiency for both facilities.

Thanks to sustainable project management, the construction project was completed after only two and a half years of planning and construction — including the qualification of all processes and systems as well as the rooms and ventilation technology by Carpus+Partner. The smooth relocation during ongoing operations is also organized from Aachen.
